We stayed at The Cavendish Hotel on the Chatsworth Estate last October and loved the area and Chatsworth itself. The Devonshire Arms in Pilsey is also lovely, but more casual. We had a room in the farmhouse with a four poster bed and it was very comfortable. Note it sems every village in Derbyshire has a pub/inn called the Devonshire Arms so you DO need to specify Pilsey to get the correct one. Even more confusing there is another Devonshire Arms on the Chatsworth Estate at Beely which is...

I saved up for this trip for years, so decided I would splurge a few times on hotels and the Cavendish was one of them. I was not disappointed! The room was huge, beautiful, comfortable, with all amenities, clean and did I mention gorgeous? I had a lovely view, the light was excellent, the bed was heaven. The Moon has great character, a fascinating history (I'm distantly related to many of the past owners from the 1800s), excellent amenities, and excellent breakfasts. I enjoyed my dinners there, too. Josh and Emma from the staff were both very friendly and helpful to me. The parking is easy, the inn centrally located in the heart of the village, and lots of local characters stop by for a pint and folks from further afield for a meal.
