This was our first stay at a rhyokan (spelling!)and we were blown away by the beauty, The comfort (personally I felt sleeping on tatami mats on a futon perfect). The attentive service was welcoming and spot on.
We ate breakfast and dinner here and the local food was abundant, gorgeously presented and flavorful.
We had a room with a private Onsen on a deck. Highly recommend.

The room was very big with a beautiful view of the forest. There was a nice wooden bath in the room and a very large communal bath. The breakfast and dinner were delicious, but there is only Japanese food and green tea, so if you want something else you should take it with you. All in all it was a wonderful ryokan experience at a very reasonable price.
The NEST at Nishiki is both a new and an exceptional property. The rooms were spotless and functional, the staff was extremely attentive, and the location was just perfect--steps from the Nishiki Market and the Gion district. Yet the single most outstanding feature of the NEST at Nishiki is its manager, Ms. Chie Nakamura. She is professional, knowledgeable, a top-notch hotelier, and a wonderful person. This is a modern hotel in a great location, located on top of a subway station only 4 stops without transfer from Kyoto Station. The subway and bus options are very convenient. There are many restaurants and cafes within walking distance and of course several Seven's and a nice grocery store nearby. The beds are comfortably and the Nespresso machines were great.
Check-in was easy and the staff is extremely helpful and courteous.

Amazing value, felt very luxurious and everything was super clean and thoughtful to the smallest details. The onsen was clean, they provided a lovely welcome drink, free snacks, and a great gym. Decent location. Thanks for the stay and will be back!
This hotel is fabulous. The rooms are stylish and the location could not be better. It is right next to a subway station and an easy trip from Kyoto station. The breakfast is tasty with many choices. The rooms are a little on the small side for Americans...we are from New York City so pretty typical for NYC standards. Would 100% stay here again. Five star for food, design, location, and service.
I had a great stay at THE GATE Hotel in Kyoto! The property is modern, clean, and well-maintained. One of the highlights is definitely the top floor, where the reception and bar are located—it offers a stunning panoramic view of the city, especially at sunset. The location is super convenient, just a short walk from the train station and close to several local attractions, which made it easy to explore Kyoto. Overall, a comfortable and stylish place to stay. I’d definitely come back!
This hotel was an excellent value. The rooms were standard Japanese size, but sufficient for two people. The lobby had an excellent common area that included free tea, coffee, filtered water, and Sake tasting. The hotel had aroma therapy in the main lobby, so be advised if you are extremely sensitive to smells, even really good ones.
