Grand Marais and related destinations
A harbor village where Lake Superior's moods play out against sailboats and weathered docks. The Artist's Point trail leads to a lighthouse photographed more than local celebrities (mostly moose). Superior National Forest offers hiking trails where silence breaks only for loon calls. Kayakers paddle alongside historic cliffs, while downtown galleries display art inspired by these dramatic vistas. The Gunflint Trail begins here, winding into wolf-howling wilderness. Restaurants serve fresh-caught fish with weather tales, and the harbor breakwall provides front-row sunset seats explaining why painters stay. Winter brings cross-country skiers gliding through snow-hushed forests at Pincushion Mountain.

Feather Nest Inn
10/10 Excellent
"The room was perfect for all of us (4 travelers). It was easy walking distance to town. I would stay again."
Aspen Inn
10/10 Excellent
"I’ve been there in the past many times and I just love it"
East Bay Suites
8/10 Good
"Great location!"
Saganaga Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"This facility function somewhere between a nice waterfront lodge and a bunk house. The rooms are great for sleeping, with nice temperature control, and nice bathrooms. They even have a small refrigerator. But there is no space to hang out in the room. This served as a great overnight spot before going into the boundary waters."
Aspen Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"The staff has been incredible in their willingness to help my emergency situation… They have provided a room for as long as I need, given me assistance with my vehicle and contents, and the breakfast offering is well presented, and very fresh and nourishing… I came under an emergency but would gladly come back and stay whenever the opportunity represented itself"
Harbor Inn Self Check-in Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Self checkin was easy. Code for the door lock was easy. Clean Room. Great location. There is a small frig and a Keurig coffee machine. Was perfect for my stay."
The Shoreline Inn
10/10 Excellent
"All around it was good. The property needs TLC"
Thomsonite Beach Inn
8/10 Good
"I think this property is probably older, but our room "cabin" was updated fairly recently it appeared. Everything was nice and clean and we had a good amount of space. We appreciated the lady at the front desk answering questions we had and she was pretty friendly. They provide all the wood and charcoal if you want to grill or use the firepits. They even provide smores which we planned to use over the firepit but it got pretty windy and chilly so we made them inside on the gas stove. They have a few outdoor lawn games like bocce, cornhole and washers and we played washers. (They also have board games in the office if you get there early enough to check those out). The view is beautiful right along the water and there is lots of seating outdoors to enjoy it. We definitely enjoyed our stay here."
