Saddle up for a journey through the Old West at the National Route 66 Museum, where highway history comes alive with surprising detail. The Elk City Museum Complex offers a time-traveling glimpse into pioneer life that feels remarkably authentic. Take a breather at Ackley Park or wander through the Carnegie Library, a building with more stories than just those on its shelves. The nearby Washita National Wildlife Refuge provides a perfect counterpoint to town attractions – prairie wilderness where the wind still sounds exactly as it did to settlers who first crossed these plains.
A hidden gem! This 5-room property converted from a storefront business offers beautiful and luxurious accommodations that this small community could not sustain at scale. It reminded me a similar lodgings approach I have seen Europe. Another local find was the Prairiefire restaurant housed in a restored, vintage railroad station - rated a top-3 restaurant and bar in western Oklahoma. This year marks the centennial of Route 66. Not by design, we have found ourselves traveling much of that route...
Our stay was very nice. Check-in was nice and easy, room was comfortable and quiet, and the cold weather did not delay our departure in the morning. Thank you La Quinta from r a great stay!
We had a change of plans after driving from Tulsa through a 66 mi/hr wind storm. I-40 was closed ahead so travelers needed a good place to stay. The facility was very nice. The lobby was welcoming, staff very friendly, hallways clean, and the room (king bed) was excellent. There was a step-in shower, Keurig coffee maker, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, fridge, microwave, large flatscreen, work space, adequate electrical outlets, and a small, clean laundry room ($2/load). Pets welcomed....
It was a quick overnight between two long days on the road. The hotel was clean, comfortable, with the standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast. The desk clerk was friendly and we slept well.
The room was good and clean. However, there had been a tournament just before we checked in and most of the hotel checked out the day we checked in. The hotel made no plans for this and the two person cleaning crew was not able get all of the rooms ready in time. We got a room by about 6:30pm. Our room had a sagging door that would not close without lifting it. Also, the elevator did not work and discussions made it sound as if it had been down for about a week.
In the past, my wife and I would stay at Sleep Inn & Suites. However, they had deteriorated so badly and their manager was so rude, we had to go elsewhere. Flamingo Inn was soooooo much beter in every way. My wife and I look forward to staying here in the years to come.
My husband decided to take me to Clinton, Oklahoma to go gambling for my birthday present. I wanted to check Hotels.com to get a great deal and was leery since one of my last choices was a disaster. This choice was a good one. This hotel was close to dining and gambling. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I would choose it, again.
