Learn more about Mackinac Island

Forget cars - bicycles and horse-drawn carriages rule this Victorian time capsule floating in Lake Huron. Fort Mackinac offers cannon demonstrations and sweeping water views that explain why both British and American forces fought to control this strategic outpost. The Grand Hotel's sprawling porch (yes, from 'Somewhere in Time') provides the perfect spot to sip tea while watching ferries crisscross the straits. Sample fudge from competing shops along Main Street - watching the theatrical marble-slab cooling process is half the fun. Arch Rock frames postcard views from 150 feet above the shoreline. For the full experience, circle the island's perimeter road, where limestone bluffs meet crystal waters and the only traffic jam might be caused by a horse taking an unauthorized snack break.

"Great Location, had all kinds of amenities if you could walk to it outside. Fire pit...We had to go buy fire starters, pool was in another building. For St. Ignace, overall, it is a fair deal. The Casino, has very low odds of winning, this is my experience of being there twice. St. Ignace is a pretty interesting small town, Mackinaw Island is expensive, covered in crowds, Bicycles and horse carts, but the businesses on this island have to make their income in less than 7 months. nightlife is Bars at $12-20 a drink, Dinners $30-$50+ea. a sub-sandwich is $23 and rents on the island WOW!"

"Wonderful stay at The Pine Cottage for our son’s wedding. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious! We experienced a little mishap with some of our luggage due to torrential and unpredictable rain. Caroline was extremely helpful and accommodating and ensured that we were cared for. We all appreciated her calm and understanding demeanour and the situation was resolved quickly and appropriately. Thank you for making our stay one to remember!"
