Maho Bay Quarter
Maho Bay Quarter is a beach lover's dream where sea turtles nest and coral reefs invite you to swim among tropical fish. Virgin Islands National Park surrounds this slice of paradise with hiking trails winding through forests filled with century plants and bay rum trees. After a day of snorkeling, discover secluded coves where you can have a piece of the Caribbean all to yourself. Eco-friendly vacation rentals and private villas dot the landscape, from rustic cabins to luxury beachfront homes. Most visitors prepare meals at their rentals since dining options are limited to nearby Cruz Bay, just a 15-minute drive away. Renting a car is your best bet for exploring this unspoiled corner of St. John.

Contant Farms
Contant Farms offers an authentic slice of St. John living away from tourist crowds. This residential neighborhood sits tucked into lush hillsides with easy access to Virgin Islands National Park hiking trails. Great Cruz Bay and Turner Bay are just a short drive away, while bird songs and tropical scents create a peaceful retreat after exploring Trunk Bay or Sapphire Beach. Private vacation rentals and modest Caribbean-style homes with wraparound porches make up the accommodation options here. You'll need a rental car to navigate the steep roads and reach Cruz Bay's restaurants and shops. The trade-off for limited walkability is the genuine island experience most visitors never discover.

Rendezvous & Ditleff
Klein Bay and Rendezvous Bay steal the show with pristine turquoise waters and powder-soft sand beaches. Tucked into St. John's southern shore, this exclusive enclave features luxury villas cascading down lush hillsides with jaw-dropping ocean views. Privacy is the main attraction here—you'll feel miles away from the crowds while still having paradise at your doorstep. Most properties come with infinity pools and fully-equipped kitchens for your morning coffee with a side of Caribbean sunrise. Renting a car is essential as the winding roads are steep and taxis are expensive. Stock up on groceries in Cruz Bay before settling into your slice of tropical heaven.
Upper Carolina
Upper Carolina offers a peaceful hillside retreat with breathtaking Caribbean views far from tourist crowds. Your days revolve around stunning panoramas, private villa living, and quick drives to pristine beaches. Virgin Islands National Park sits at your doorstep with Ajax Peak tempting hikers to discover sweeping island vistas. Most villas feature infinity pools and full kitchens for sunset cocktails and home-cooked meals. The steep, winding roads require confident driving, making rental cars essential for exploring Cruz Bay's dining scene and beaches. This residential haven delivers authentic island living with exceptional privacy and natural tropical beauty.

Lower Carolina
Lower Carolina's pristine beaches and clear waters create the perfect tropical escape on St. John. Hiking trails wind through lush vegetation, leading to hidden coves perfect for snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs. Virgin Islands National Park borders the neighborhood, offering adventures through unspoiled wilderness just steps from your door. Luxury vacation villas with panoramic ocean views dominate the accommodation scene, most featuring private pools and full kitchens. You'll need a rental car to navigate the winding roads, as public transit is limited. The peaceful atmosphere comes with minimal commercial development—most visitors cook at their villas or drive to nearby Cruz Bay for dining options.

Learn more about St. John
Dive into crystal-clear waters at Trunk Bay, where sea turtles glide past as if showing off their underwater neighborhood. Virgin Islands National Park covers two-thirds of this smallest U.S. Virgin Island, offering hiking trails through lush forests where wild donkeys roam freely. Snorkeling at Waterlemon Cay reveals coral gardens teeming with tropical fish that seem completely unbothered by your presence. History buffs can explore the haunting ruins of Annaberg Plantation, where sugar mill remains tell stories of a complicated past. Cruz Bay serves as the island's main hub, though 'busy' here means something entirely different than on the mainland. Maho Beach offers the rare chance to float in calm waters while watching pelicans dive-bomb for their lunch just feet away.

St John Inn
"Wonderful!!’ The best part was the manager, what a wonderful host. She made our stay. Friendly, warm, knowledgeable. I can’t remember such a wonderful human being in hospitality before. They are lucky to have her."
Inn at Tamarind Court
"This place was interesting. We spent four days here and honestly really loved it but there are some pros and cons. PROS: -excellent location with a grocery store around the corner and just a 3 minute walk to Cruz bay -room was spacious -restaurant was OUTSTANDING -the whole staff made you feel like family and some guy even gave us some bananas he grows himself that was cool -complimentary breakfast (a delicious sweet bread with fruit and coffee or juice is included, they serve you at the restaurant) -room was very clean and tidy -outside foot wash for sand -felt intimate -they provided beach towels, beach bag, and 30 spf sunscreen if needed -a big list of things to do and how to get places around St. John CONS: -no on site laundry although the laundromat is like a one minute walk but is a bit pricey -housekeeping is once a week (not a huge con for us but it may be for some people) -BED and PILLOWS were TERRIBLE! Spring mattress was incredibly worn and pretty uncomfortable -its location is an uphill walk that can be a little intense for some people Overall the pros out weigh the cons for us and we will be rebooking here. The price was fair for what they offer (we went in the offseason) but you can’t beat this location and it seemed a lot of locals really loved it here."

Gallows Point Resort
"This property has an amazing spot on the island. The staff was incredible. They have lots of towels and also offer turn down service every day if you want it. Make sure you always leave your housekeeper a tip on your pillow! The parking attendant was awesome. The staff at the restaurant was very nice and helpful in the Front Desk ladies were great! Everything was very clean in the sunsets were 10 out of 10! Just watch where you’re stepping at night that’s when you will see hundreds of hermit crabs of all different sizes all over the property! It was so awesome! Highly recommend this place!"
Sea Shore Allure
"Our stay at Sea Shore Allure was amazing! The property is so clean and absolutely beautiful. The owners were so professional and accommodating. I truly cannot say enough about this special place! We will be staying here again when we return to St. John!"
Suite St. John at Gallows Point Resort
"Friendly staff. Beautiful property."
Coconut Coast Villas
"We stayed in a top floor condo with an outdoor balcony where you could sit and sip coffee in the morning watching the car barges plying between St. Thomas and St. John. The a/c worked fine. Management provided fins, snorkeling gear and beach towels. We fixed dinner in the unit, and it had basic pots, pans and utensils. All in all, a fine place. I would return there."
Concordia Eco-Resort
"Very close to nature, beaches, hiking trails and felt like living in home. Views from the location are breathtaking and I had the best stay connecting with nature & soaking up the warmth of sun, sea waves & mountains around"
