Island View Hotel Bar Harbor

8/10 Good

"It was a nice stay. The floors in my room were clean. The heater worked well. I was able to get the room warm in very little time. One thing I wished the room had was a bigger trash can. All I had for a trash can was a small maybe 8 inch tall and wide canister. My least favorite part of the motel was that the hallway upstairs smelled like someone was or had been smoking weed. Thankfully, the smell stayed out there and was not in my room. The room I stayed in was nice, including the bathroom. The hot water worked well. As far as the grounds, you have a great view of Thompson Island, Mount Desert Narrows and can look straight across at Mount Desert Island. Anyone who stays at the motel is allowed to go out and see this view. There are some picnic tables on the lawn by the water too."

"Not fancy by any means but if you’re looking for a clean, comfortable and affordable place to stay, this might be your spot. Close to restaurants, shopping and on the road to Bar Harbor. I would recommend checking out the downtown Ellsworth area as this New England City, while busy with vacation traffic, has a lot to offer and this property makes it an affordable."

"The room and hotel generally were great. Two main issues. 1. There is no elevator and consequently carrying heavy bags for a 76 year old was extremely hard work. I wouldn’t be so surprised if an elderly guest had a heart attack. The hotel should make it clear when booking and try and allocate ground floor rooms to the elderly guests. 2.. The road at the front of the hotel is very busy and noisy with trucks. Ask for a room at the rear if you you enjoy peace and quiet."
