Learn more about Greenville
Moosehead Lake dominates this tiny Maine outpost, where moose sightings are so common locals barely mention them. Take a Katahdin cruise across America's largest mountain-ringed lake, where captains point out wildlife with casual expertise. The Moosehead Marine Museum chronicles the region's logging heritage with surprising wit. Lily Bay State Park offers perfect picnic spots with views that inspired Thoreau. Anglers pursue trophy landlocked salmon while hikers tackle Mount Kineo's dramatic cliff face. In winter, snowmobilers zoom across frozen lakes on trails reaching the edge of civilization. Local restaurants serve enormous portions - apparently assuming you've spent the day burning calories in the wilderness. Bring binoculars and patience; the wildlife doesn't perform on schedule.

Kineo View Lodge
"Nice place. Good little continental breakfast. **** Only complaint which was out of their control was down below the hill there was some sort of construction or quarrying operation going on, so from about 3-4am on there was a constant loud rumbling sound going on. 15-20 seconds then nothing for a minute then 15-20 seconds again and that repeated all morning through when we left at 7:15am. Weird for a Sunday morning. I didn’t inquire about it because I figured it was out of their hands and just unfortunate. **** We did also find some moose near by. We just drove around at dusk on timber company land and found 3 to watch."
