This property is outstanding for two basic reasons: location---the beachfront views are unbeatable (the ground floors may not have a view, it should be noted). Also, the staff were phenomenal. It seems that they are especially trained to be personable, interested, and thoughtful. Truly impressive 5 star quality of service.
The only thing that is unfortunate are our friends who require elevators. The hotel doesn't have elevators for the rooms with great views.

Had a wonderful stay, unfortunately a pipe broke somewhere in the building on our 2nd day, but staff was wonder and already had another Choice hotel room ready for us at another property. Couldn’t have asked for any better service.

Everything was excellent! The only concern was that there was often too much noise in the hallways at night and that should’ve been controlled by staff.

I feel like we really lucked out with this stay. Planned only 2 weeks prior, we booked accommodations last minute and took a chance on Avondale. It was perfect! Right on Beach Ave. in Cape May, we had view of the ocean from our balcony area. Upon booking, I received a call within 30 minutes from Avondale to confirm our stay and to ask us if we were OK with with walking up the stairs to 2nd or 3rd floor as there is no elevator. Not a problem for us and the 2nd floor facing the beach was perfect....
My wife and I recently stayed at the Bedford Inn and we were more than impressed. Immediately upon arriving we were greeted by the owner, "Archie" and he spent close to a half an hour giving us a tour of the property and explaining the policies and ammenities. After which he stayed to answer all of our questions regarding the surrounding area, being it was our first overnight stay in Cape May. I was looking for a two day peaceful getaway and the Virginia Hotel was perfect. Located in the center of town, we were able to walk everywhere, enjoy a fabulour dinner at the hotel and ending the evening sitting on the porch reflecting on a perfect day.
Welcoming staff. You could smell the cleanliness when you walked in the front door. Beds exceptionally comfortable. Clean rooms (& I’m hard to impress in that department) with the exception of a couple of spots on the ceiling that I’m pretty sure could be easily cleaned off. I won ’t say what it appeared to be, but they need to clean it off. Pool is NOT heated, just FYI. I only like heated pools, but the rest of the family enjoyed it.
