About 20 minutes drive outside of Gubbio and up a mountain, the Castello provides a unique hotel stay. Our room was in a building inside the walls. It was quite large with a very roomy bathroom with both large tub and separate shower. Beams, stone walls and wooden shutters contributed to the castle atmosphere. This was my first time in Italy and first time in Europe in 24 years. I chose this place because of the location not being close to the city and the great amenities. Located in a nice little town of 122 people with its own church next door, this hotel was perfect.

My stay was not planned well in advance. I had a fairly traumatic day with a lot of stress and being on the edge of heatstroke. I was supposed to have been hundreds of kilometers away but could not make it there. I booked the room at Lo Spedalicchio as it was close and well reviewed. The woman working there, Susanna ( I'm sorry if the spelling is wrong), was amazing. She was very helpful and attentive. I was at a very low point and my stay there was great! Thank you!

Beautiful, seculded hilltop estate with great view and beautiful grounds. Nice pool. Hosts were warm and inviting and dinner of regional cuisine was good. Rooms are large and relatively sparse with minimal amenities, and beware there is no A/C. Breakfast was simple. They produce award winning olive oil available for purchase.
This place is a must stay if you are in Gubbio. The facilities are fantastic, the owners and staff are terrific. Our room was beautiful, clean and quiet. The view from the room was amazing.
