This is a unique property in the middle of antic city Matera. Beautiful views from the windows to die for, location, etc. Hotel is in excellent condition, furniture, room design, etc. Breakfast is very good. Great options for fine food in the area. You need to be prepare to walk a lot in the city of Matera with steps up and down including to and from hotel. If you can not walk - it is not for you. Parking (free or paid) is on the street within 10-15 min or so walking. Finding can be a problem....

Just by points to cover the basics: The hotel is literally 5 minutes via taxi from Taranto's central train station, or 10 Euros. If you're back packing, it's about 1 kilometer straight across the bridge from the train station. Hotel first: Basiiani Hotel is a marvel in a town once called the 'Shame of Italy'. It is a hotel that is comprised of several rooms carved into caves that used to be people's homes. It is awesome. The decor, beds, bathroom and amenities all top notch. The staff friendly and the buffet breakfast was great. Highly recommended. Now the town of Matera.... you must go. Truly out of this world and worth every adjective of beauty.

Each of the four suites are beautifully designed and decorated—maintaining the original structure of each space. Staff are courteous and friendly and helpful in places to go and visit as well as restaurant recommendations and reservations. The bed is very comfortable with luxurious linens. Plenty of delicious food and juice choices for breakfast and the best cappuccino! Thank you Paola and her staff for making our stay memorable!
