First off let me preface this by saying that you have to be open minded. Some foreigners want to go to a place and have it be just like home but in another country. If you are looking for a western style hotel that has a happening nightlife and tons of bars and people around, then this is not the place for you. Great Ryokan. The property is beautiful and it's not far from the Kumamoto limousine bus stop (the hotel gives you rides to and from the stop anyway). Short walking distance to a bunch of restaurants and the main area of the town. Top notch service and super clean. The outdoor onsen is incredible. 若いスタッフが一生懸命少人数で工夫して宿を運営している姿に好感が持てました。古民家の別棟を家族６人で利用。和室2部屋とベット2つが置かれた部屋がありトイレ2つ。洗面所3つ冷蔵庫2つが設置されている。食事も別棟内に用意してくれる。お風呂は予約制で数歩外を歩く必要があり天気の悪い日や足腰が弱い人は利用しづらい。他の客には一切会うことなくプライベート感を味わえる宿でした

I loved it! Despite not speaking much Japanese I had a great time. It was really easy to get to from Yufuin station by taxi since there’s a taxi stand right there. The only hard part is if you don’t have a car, getting to and from the station once the front desk closes is somewhat difficult. I brought food with me and snacks before arriving. The water temperature is perfect and the room I rented was beautiful!

What a great experience! Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, and delicious food. The cats theme is charming and we loved being able to spend time with them. It was nice having a private onsen and since there are limited guests, we didn’t have to reserve and were able to bathe whenever we asked. I recommend staying more than one night, and wish the trip were longer. Thank you for the beautiful stay!
