"I had a lovely stay. The staff were kind, welcoming, and very helpful, and the hotel was comfortable and enjoyable throughout my visit. The only small difficulty was finding the location on my first arrival, but once I found it everything was excellent. Thank you very much for your hospitality."
"The amenities and location of the property made it a super comfortable and relaxing stay. It was beautifully designed and the view was great! (Worth the uphill climb and slight detour from the main shimanami kaido route!) Smooth and easy communication with the owner. Google maps location was accurate. Breakfast provided was decent. If you are staying in the property for more meals, bring more food along. Kitchen is well furnished. Will choose to stay here again!"
"This was our (family of four age 9 and 11 kids) first Ryokan experience. It was incredible. We loved the authentic Japanese feel. It was an adventure getting there on a boat and we rented bikes next door for a beautiful all day ride. It’s a great spot to ride from in the middle of the Kaido. If you want a traditional, relaxing stay—book this! We hope to return. (We did 2 rooms with 2 people each because the bedrooms are smallish.)"
"The hotel is older and in need of upgrades both inside and out
However everything was clean and orderly
We had a great corner room with huge views from two windows with no overlooking
The food was traditional Japanese done to perfection really a beautiful dinner and breakfast so wonderful to try so many new things
A fun experience high up in the surrounding hills"
"Nice and quiet, spacious, comfortable and unique room in japanese style. Generous with free entry to the spa and minibar with some lokal beer and juice on the house:) Would have loved to stay more than one night!"
"The staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, making the stay truly enjoyable. The location is stunning and serene, and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this place."

I became very aware of my American biases based on my first impression. But I quickly found out what a beautiful authentically Japanese experience this was.
It’s hard to get there, but if you find the right bus line, you can get from Fukuyama station all the way up to the national park. The property is older and a bit dated, but it just feels historical to me.
It was so great that I already booked my return! Excellent, helpful staff. Perfect location. Very comfortable bed and soundproof walls— I’ve never slept so well in a hotel. Great value for the cost!
Such a quaint and charming place! The hotel reflects traditional Japanese architecture and decor. Very delicious Japanese breakfast. Extremely satisfied!! Close to bunny island too! The hotel staff helped us get a taxi to get to the bunny island dock.
Room are small, but that is fine when you travel. The bed is best suited for one or couples. The walk is reasonable from the station roo. Host is also very responsive as we had two back to back reservations and they responded quickly for us to stay in the same room. Would definitely recommend to others.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast everyday was plentiful and tasty. It was different and fresh everyday. There was a relaxation room on the second floor that we used often. A massage service was available and we were able to access it. It was great. The hotel was in a good location to be able to find restaurants and shopping places. We would go back there again,
Every once in a great while you find a place where you wish you could stay extra days. This is one of those places!
We had a group of nine people so we booked the entire Omoya house (6 bedrooms) which worked great for us. The cordial host came out to meet us when we arrived. The house is beautiful, and impeccably clean. It is well equipped with lots of dishes, pans, appliances. The grounds are gorgeous, peaceful and quiet. I definitely hope to go back sometime soon!
This hotel is unlike anything I have seen in Japan. It has California/Palm Springs vibes thanks to the modern open air architecture, white washed clean buildings, amazing indoor/outdoor flow, and fantastic location right on the water.
We stayed in one of the private cottages which face the water and we had an unobstructed view of the bridge. Despite being about 50m back from the waters edge, our cottage had an amazing breezy and almost tropical feel. Thanks to the very cleverly laid out...
I have been attracting by Setouchi Shimanami Kaito bike touring for a long time through Taiwanese cycling enthusiasts. At age 75, my wife thinks I am crazy. I booked two nights at Suminoe for 6/17 and 18. The spacious room with ocean view and bidet toilet are very impressive. Miss Wang who is in charge, is very intelligent. She suggested and drove me to the Ikuchijima bike shop to rent a nice one. I started around 9 AM in light rain and stayed cool. No trouble going across Tatara Bridge, but...
Just the most incredible experience we've ever had in a hotel. So much more that just a hotel, it's a whole Japanese luxury experience. Every member of staff was just incredible - friendly, efficient and really made the experience from the moment we stepped off the dock on the island because they met us there. The rooms are stunning - the pictures don't do them justice. The gardens are beautiful throughout the hotel - they feel very traditionally Japanese. The bathhouse is also stunning, I would...
If you plan on doing the Shimanami Kaido e-bike tour, this is a great hotel. We had views from our room of the first bridge and island. On our e-bike return from Onomichi, we had views of our hotel from the same bridge. Close to everything.
