This was my first trip to Japan, I had to make some last minute itinerary changes and came upon Dormy Hot Springs. The room was a little smaller than I expected - by traveling solo I needed a clean comfortable space, this was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful to an American who spoke no Japanese. The breakfast buffet was exceptional plus to the stay.
Susukinohara Ichinoyu was a lovely treat for us! Hakone was so different from the frenetic energy in Tokyo. There were many other resorts in the area, but were unable to accommodate our group of 17. Our ryokan was so peaceful and serene and the private room Onsen for each family was the icing on top. All of the staff members were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Always enjoy my stay at this property but was disappointed this time with breakfast. They no longer serve drinks to order instead a big thermos for coffee and tea were on the counter, of course taste was subpar. The manager saw my surprise at this and offered drinks to order but I believe this should be a minimum standard for a brand like Hyatt Regency. In my humble opinion, you don’t need curry in the morning buffet but you should offer quality coffee and tea to kick off the day pleasantly.

Staffs spoke fluent English and are super communicative. Overall great experience, scenery of the onsen is amazing. Just want to highlight though, when we used the shuttle bus to arrive at the Gora Station, bus driver didn’t really help to carry the luggages down which is fine, just feels a bit weird to see the contrast before and after leaving the hotel. Overall, hospitality 9.5/10.
I was originally worried because of the lack of reviews on Expedia, but the hotel was truly very beautiful. The rooms are very quiet and clean, and the hotel is right across the street from a 7-11, so you can get meals there if you need to.
Transportation was a little tough, as there was not many trains, but there was a bus stop right outside the hotel which was convenient.
Staff for check in is abundant and helps with “Japanese” service. We stayed in a Japanese-Western combo room which was well updated and spacious for family of 5. 2 different big baths in annex which were both updated and nice!
Excellent location. One block from the gotenba free shuttle bus. Bowling, billiard, dart activity facility across the street and several blocks from the gotenba train station. Also food supermarkets in walking distance.
Hakone Suisen provided the best service I expected. The staff were really kind and friendly, the facility was clean and nice, onsen(both inside and outside) were great, and they even provided simple breakfast!
Onsen is not big as normally depicted in Japanese media(movie/drama) but the water source is outstanding.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to access other restaurants/cafe from the location by public transport, so I HIGHLY recommend you to enjoy your dinner at somewhere else before...
I loved this hotel, wish I could stay longer. Lovely common areas to relax both indoors and outdoors, free drinks and snacks, alcoholic at night, as well as a lovely array of desserts in the evening. Everyone walking around in their yukatas provided by the hotel gives a very relaxing vibe. I enjoyed both the communal (had it to myself) and private onsens. Better than expected, spacious room, good buffet breakfast, pleasant staff. Walkable (30 minutes) to the hot springs (Onsen) near the Premium outlet shops which is a must do, together with a massage package which was a once in a lifetime experience for me.
Unfortunately, did not see Mt. Fuji during my stay as the weather was cloudy.

A beautiful property on Lake Ashinoko with stunning views of Mt Fuji. Extremely close to the rope-way that takes you up to the shrine on the mountain with even more breathtaking views. Lovely rooms, helpful staff. Dining options are limited to the hotel as it is too remote to get anywhere else. Nice outdoor onsen
