Wonderful stay. Beautiful room and having the lounge was nice. The Honesty Bar was a particularly pleasant touch. Easy walking to Yorkminster and all the sights. I wish we had stayed longer!
While planning our trip to the UK, my daughter and I wanted to either stay at a Manor house or Castle. Middlethorpe Hall was the perfect choice. It is several miles outside York, but less than 10 minutes by uber or taxi.
The staff was gracious and solicitous. We arrived just in time for tea. The food was fantastic, generous, and the location in the the ball room facing the beautiful green lawn was exactly what we had hoped for.

hotel/bed and breakfast has nice friendly atmosphere, excellent breakfast, and is in walking distance of old town York. Only issue is limited parking in back, but they managed somehow by having cars that were leaving earlier closest to exit path. Helpful with things like where to get laundry done, where to go for meals, and unusual sites in old town that we would have never thought of. Will definitely stay there again.
We stayed three nights at the Rose and Crown in August 2016. We were welcomed by Johnny, the accommodations manager who immediately showed us to our room, and then helped us carry up our luggage. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The owner, Fiona, was extremely nice and the breakfast was amazing. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and I loved the historical nature of the house. It is also in a good location, just far enough from the city. We would absolutely recommend the property and stay here again
Everything from beginning to end was perfect..The host was friendly and educted. And paid great attention to detail....plus the a free sherry in the room was just the icing on the cake .I would atay here again and again.
We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is perfectly situated by the river, which was lovely for morning walks. We upgraded to a suite, which was spacious, well designed, and thoughtfully appointed. The bed was super comfortable, too. Our shower was a little slow to drain, but the staff responded to the issue quickly and with great professionalism, which we really appreciated. Very nice room ("Guy Fawkes")- comfy bed, great bathroom. The hotel is nicely appointed, great, quirky interior decor. The location could not be better for attractions and dining.
One caveat- those with arthritis may find the doors a problem. The knobs are round, slick and somewhat difficult to turn. Plus, the doors are heavy.
