You might want to play some rounds at Dewstow Golf Club, located 9.6 mi (15.4 km) from central Newport. If Dewstow Golf Club doesn't quite scratch your golfing itch, St. Pierre Country Club is also nearby.
Very nice pub accommodation. Our room was comfortable, but at the front, so a tad noisy.
The bathroom had a step down so really needed a night light to prevent surprises.
We had a nice walk through the field before dinner-careful crossing the busy road where the the speed limit seems to be optional. Shame there was not a path along the river.

This was truly an authentic overnight stay in a castle built in the early 1500's. The castle was amazing by itself, but our room, Henry VIII, was an experience by itself! It was exactly what we had hoped for and more than we expected. The bedding and towels were outstanding as was the comfort of the bed. The shower was also great plus there was a jacuzzi tub. We could not determine how to turn on the heated towel rack, and we had issues with turning on the fireplace (so did the gentleman...
Nice room, although the electrical outlets were inconveniently placed. Good restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and very close to the Welsh National Roman Legion Museum.
I have stayed many times now and would always recommend. I was stuck by GWR trains this last weekend and the incredible staff went above and beyond to get me checked in quickly and early. I would HIGHLY recommend. Bar is great, food is excellent, and the breakfast is awesome. Stay, trust me.
The staff were very welcoming. I was traveling alone so decided to book the snug bedroom. I was pleasantly surprised. It was well equipped with tea and coffee facilities, large disabled access wet room. TV and an extra rad if I was cold. For the one night stay it had everything I needed.
