Monastery Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Bistro was average, with less than average service for our one dinner. Hard to blame the one poor guy trying to serve and cook. Two of us, and when a table of 6 joined the tables, he was overwhelmed. Breakfast the next morning there were several cooks and two servers. Night and day."
Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott St. John's Newfoundland
10/10 Excellent
"Modern clean room. Staff was helpful and friendly and the breakfast included was a nice added bonus. Will definitely stay at this location again"
DoubleTree by Hilton St. John's Harbourview
8/10 Good
"The step on the front desk was very helpful. We had booked a water view room, but had been switched due to an air-conditioning issue. The staff went out of his way to ensure that we were compensated for the change and gave us some choices in lieu. The layout, design and decor make the spaces in the room not very usable. Useable space is limited due to poor design and decor. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. The shower worked well, although one must get in the shower to turn on the water and therefore it makes it difficult to not get wet with cold water. It’s an ideal location and is near many restaurants and tourist attractions."
The Murray Premises Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Where to start? The room was much larger than anticipated, the staff was unfailingly kind and accommodating, the room temperature was consistent, the continental breakfast was great and busy every morning. The location was nestled between Water Street and the harbourfront so we were plain in the middle of the action, near to a ton of restaurants, and JellyBean Row and there was always available parking at the hotel and the patio at the west of the building was a great place to relax and underutilized by patrons, but I doubt this will be the case once the Barrel Thief restaurant opens up. A few oddities - there was no microwave in the room due to the age of the building and the reasonable concern of a fire in a place made with so much wood. Google maps kept trying to bring us on to Water Street but we kept getting rerouted because of Water Street being a summertime pedestrian walkway. It took a while to just start entering Jack Astor's as our destination so that we could get to the parking lot for the Murray Premises. An amazing experience with so few downsides. One word of warning: you are at the lowest point, the harbourfront, on Canada's oldest city and one built on a steep hill, we took a 600 m walk up to the nearest open Tim Horton's one morning and the walk up the steep incline ended with us sweating while drinking coffee so plan to drive a lot and Saint John's is not intuitively set up so be sure to have a Google maps to direct you."

"The hotel is OK. The room was large, which is positive. The carpet in the common places is old and not so clean."
