Wonderful stay. Just what you would want in a traditional British experience. Good chance to walk around and see nature and enjoy some peace and quiet. Excellent food and service in the Pub/Restaurant for both dinner and breakfast.
Excellent One night stopover whilst visiting for an event in the area , I arrived at 8 pm & ordered a very well kept local Ale , A Sirloin steak which was delicious washed down with an excellent merlot .
The annexed accommodation was spacious and very comfortable with luxurious bedding , The ensuite bathroom was very well laid out with a huge shower that was excellent .
Breakfast was delicious and was cooked by the charming owner.
I loved everyone and everything except the hand soap. The proprietors were exceptionally helpful. The food was excellent. I would definitely recommend the chudleigh.
Quirky and incredibly well designed hotel! It can’t be easy remodeling a +500 year old hotel. Location was perfect! Downtown Colchester, walkable to shops and restaurants.
Modern amenities, fabulous decor, great location and incredible customer service! I really enjoyed staying in the historic hotel.
Great place to stay but you need a car to go to nearby places of interest. Due to "covid" the management have used what used to be the car park in front of the Pub with outside seating leaving only space for 1 car. There is however no parking restrictions along the section of road it is in. It only has 4 rooms and we got room number 4, it has obviously been recently refurbished and was very nice. Had a decent size toilet/ sink / shower room. not a problem for us but if you can not climb...
The Marquis has just completed renovations, and while there were a few teething problems, the staff was wonderful. They could not have done more to make our stay wonderful. Special shout out to David, Ryann, Lucy, Emma, Kate, Annabelle, Carmin, and everyone else we came in contact with, all were wonderful.
The spa and pool were not even mentioned as they just opened, the facility is one of the best we ever visited, again with the staff to match.
We are looking forward to our next stay.
Enjoyed a 4 night stay, great location, very friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms are spacious and clean. Food and service from the onsite Samphire restaurant was great. Would return again.
