Everything about this hotel was perfect - the grounds, the buildings, the furnishing, the food, the staff. The setting is near an apple orchard and landscaping beautiful. The building is over 100 years old and totally refurbished to beauty and comfort. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the surroundings.

We had an amazing experience. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed for a weekend getaway and everything at this hotel was just perfect. I called ahead to request an early check in and the front desk person was very personable and helpful and left a great impression. The hotel is decorated beautifully and the rooms are spacious with great amenities. Lovely robes and slippers, coconut bath products, towel warmer, wet bar sink and coffee setup - the attention to detail makes this a more luxury stay. Solid place to stay. Kind of 50 to 60's vibe to it, although updated. Park right at your entry. Stayed in room #4, which was a end unit, all units are ground level. 3 nights in mid-November 2025. Negatives: Wi-fi was a bit weaker & only working 50% of the time, Too much outside light shining in at night - particularly on the car parking side, awkward hand sanitizer dispenser instead of soap at sink, No USB ports. My daughter to there a little early, and she said the "help" knew nothiing of her reservation. She should a printout of our payment and went off to Burger King. When she returned all was sorted out. Good value!

Nowadays the rooms in motels are SO tiny, you almost feel claustrophobic, but Cumberland's rooms are large and comfortable, well supplied, clean, and windows with cross-ventilation. Even the bathrooms are large. We were very impressed, enjoyed our 9-day stay there immensely, and would definitely book there again. Cumberland Motel is just about in the center of Hastings, New Zealand, so we also had easy access to wherever we wanted to go. The owners were very hospitable, too, and we honestly...
