Very charming hotel! Wish we had more time to stay. The property feels very much like a ski lodge and I'm sure is gorgeous in the winter. Just as nice and more quiet in the summer!
We ate at the more casual restaurant - great food and enjoyed having drinks on the rooftop patio. We didn't have a chance to swim in the heated pool but it looked lovely. We loved learning that some of the Lord of the Rings cast stayed here when they were filming! 10/10 recommend
Sue and John were such wonderful owners of the motel. They were very helpful, fetched us from the railway station and took us to town to buy our groceries. The motel had all the facilities needed and you can rent you skiing gears at the motel itself. Plenty of supply of firewood and beautiful view of Mt Ruapehu.
This is a small (5 rooms?) "green" boutique hotel where they generate their own electricity via solar panels and use captured rainwater and runoff around the compound. The peaceful pond just outside our room added to the serenity of our visit; and across the pond, off in the distance, we enjoyed the most incredible view of the Tongariro National Park. We stayed on December 31, and the owners were extremely friendly, inviting all of their guests to join them for a New Year's Eve celebratory...
