Because the hotel is located inside the old city walls and in the old town with very narrow streets, access to it is challenging with a car. However, because I had reserved a (paid) garage parking (15 euro and well worth it for us), I could come inside the walls to drop luggage and then proceed to the garage. The very nice young woman who was in charge came (on foot) to our location outside the walls to show us how to come to the hotel and to get inside the barrier. She then went with me to...
The place is a large farmhouse, 1000 years ago it was used by farming monks. 15 minutes from Barcelonette and everything the Ubaye valley and the Mercantour have to offer (We're hikers, but folks come here to bike or drive their Porsches on mountain roads too). Diane and Frederic are wonderful and attentive hosts and the home made breakfast will definitely make you come for more.
Alain the owner is what turned the whole experience into a gem. He made an incredible gratin à la dauphinoise and entertained us and took care of me and his other guests whom I befriended because of him. So loving and lovely.
