If you like shopping, take time out to go to Multiplaza del Este Mall when in Curridabat. Hotels.com travelers also say the area is full of friendly people and has lots of nice beaches. It's also full of great shops and restaurants, so you can spend the afternoon having a wander.
Great customer service, even booked a shuttle for the next day (same price as if I did it myself). Airport pickup, reception, check-in, breakfast, local directions, and the room were all excellent. They even drove us to a nearby restaurant. The only drawback was that Room #1 was in the hallway, so be aware that noises in the hallway and bedroom transmit easily.

I was a little worried during the taxi ride to the hotel that I had made a terrible mistake in picking the hotel as some of the areas look a little rough (by American standards), however, once at the gated hotel I realized that I indeed had made a good choice when choosing the location as the property is incredibly calming and beautiful. Just know that since you are out of the city you will need to use Uber eat or a taxi to get food as there is no onsite restaurant.
Staff was amazing at check in. I arrived very early and they did their best to accommodate me. Also, the bar manager was very personable. All around great stay as it is close to museums and parks.
I find no fault whatsoever with this hotel. I liked everything. It had a safe in the room where I could lock up my electronic devices whenever I wanted. The complimentary breakfast was very good with a wide variety of foods. Plenty of hot water. Free coffee in the room and at breakfast. You can buy expensive or less expensive food at the restaurant. This property was absolutely wonderful from the amenities to the very nice staff to the beautiful location. Keep in mind that the hotel is about 20 to 30 minutes from the city area and taxis can get expensive however this hotel is worth it. Activities multiple restaurants, great spa tennis golf course and a historical tour available..
You feel welcome the minute you set foot in the hotel! Staff is very helpful and at ease! Our shower didn't have hot water and they offered us immediately another bigger room with a great view as well. We kept our little room with our incredible view. Luckily the water problem was fixed very soon. :-)

We had a wonderful Christmas week at Canal Grande Lodge! Raffael and his staff were excellent hosts who made sure we had everything we needed. The small hotel was quiet and beautifully situated. You could walk to restaurants and a few small local stores. We enjoyed Santa Margaritas down the street on 2 nights of our stay. I chose this hotel because of its proximity to SJO, the availability of its business center (to print my boarding pass), and the free breakfast to get me going in the morning. I ended up having dinner there the night prior as well. The costs were fair and the food was pretty good. The staff was VERY friendly and accomodating, and when I come back to visit San Jose, I will definitely be staying here again.
We have always enjoyed staying at this property because it is clean, quiet and has the best breakfast in town. We fly in from Oklahoma and often arrive in San Jose late enough we need to spend the night before going to our home on the South Pacific coast. This is a place you can count on being a good quality hotel.
