Strathaven Hotel

8/10 Good

"A one night stay on a B&B rate booked through Expedia, arriving late evening on what was a horrible weather night. Did not attend the bar but it appeared to be well stocked. Easy check-in which was open till 11pm and reception staff were very pleasant. Plenty of parking available with 2 disabled bays only. It was rather dark around the entrance road to where the main door was but thankfully there were plenty of car spaces to choose from. The room was a good size, clean & warm room which was quiet, with a shower over bath en-suite & the usual kettle/tea/coffee amenities available. Breakfast was a mix of buffet for cereals and hot breakfast to order, all which were fresh & tasty. Overall a nice overnight stay at a good price which was on a late afternoon booking."

"I had booked a twin room for 3 nights via Hotels.com. and the image on the website did not represent the room allocated to us. The room we were allocated was a very small twin room with the beds tightly next to each other looking like a double bed, with insufficient space to walk around each bed. This was not acceptable. The one bedside table provided had to be moved to another part of the room, which made the room very cramped indeed. We requested a proper twin room with beds a good distance apart. We were told they were all taken due to a wedding but that we could be moved the next morning. We also discovered overnight that the mattresses in the room were totally worn out and inadequate and went nearly flat when trying to sleep. You could feel every single coil in the mattress which meant we had a very poor nights sleep. The mattresses should have been replaced long ago. We were moved to another twin room the next morning and the manager apologised profusely for any inconvenience. This room was exactly what we had been expecting and the mattresses were really deep and seemed brand new. We enjoyed the rest of the stay including a swim in the swimming pool. The staff were extremely helpful and obliging at all times. The dinner on the first night was good and the breakfasts excellent."

"Lovely hotel in a very beautiful setting . The delux room was large, clean and very comfortable with an amazing river view. We found the restaurant food mixed but it was very convenient. Steak pie was the best meal we had. Bar was small but cosy with good service . We didn’t use the pool but it looked nice too. Overall a great stay and we will be back ."
