If you're planning a bit of sightseeing during your trip, head to Peak Viewpoint— just one of the landmarks located 1.4 mi (2.2 km) from central Fox Glacier.
Notable for its mountains, Fox Glacier features attractions such as Fox Glacier Glow Worm Forest and Peak Viewpoint. This welcoming city has something for everyone including sights like Te Wahipounamu within a small-town setting.
A good base to visit the two glaciers and also Lakes Matheson and Gault, plus the coast at Okatiro. You have accommodation, a few places to eat, fuel and one grocery shop. Preferred it to Franz Joseph.

Small little town right near fox glacier. Several nice, rustic restaurants.
"This is an amazing motel. We always stay here. It’s super clean, modernized, fabulous view and great people. On top of that it’s dog friendly. Very underrated. You won’t regret staying here. "
"Stay was good, room was nice. Only downside was that there wasn’t a fridge but may have been an oversight on my end. Otherwise very cute and cozy cabin style lodging. Would go back! "
"First of all the view is amazing!
Clean, spacious rooms. There is plenty of space for luggage and any hiking equipment. The heated floors are a nice touch and the large radiator heater gets the room nice and toasty.
Having a kitchen is convenient as dining options are limited (and expensive) buy what you need beforehand in Twizel.
There is also a laundry which is handy as you'll be getting dirty clothes on your daily hikes.
Staff are friendly and helpful."
"This place was recommended to us because Karen manages it and she was very helpful. She accommodated our late arrival and recommended great things to do in town and the next day during our drive down the coast. "
