Learn more about Southwest Harbor
Forget the crowds of Bar Harbor – this quiet corner of Mount Desert Island offers all the beauty with none of the bustle. Acadia National Park's less-traveled trails like Flying Mountain reward hikers with harbor views that feel earned. The Wonderland Trail leads through spruce forests to tide pools teeming with starfish and sea urchins. Ship Harbor Nature Trail loops through classic Maine landscapes – granite, spruce, and sparkling sea. After kayaking alongside curious seals, return to town where lobster rolls are served without pretension at dockside picnic tables. The Wendell Gilley Museum celebrates the art of bird carving with remarkable precision. Long Pond offers peaceful paddling opportunities where loons call across misty morning waters.

"Wonderful views, pricey breakfast."
Kimball Terrace Inn Northeast Harbor
"Great location and nice clean room."
Bluenose Inn - Bar Harbor Collection
"First off, the location could not be better - depending on the building you're in and the floor you're on, the views of Bar Harbor are nothing short of breathtaking. Then, it's just a mile walk to nearly any point in the town, on a shared-use path or sidewalk; and the hotel is just a two-mile drive up to the Hulls Cove Acadia Visitor Center. The staff is friendly, helpful, and thorough - they came through with a band-aid one day (post-hiking) and a pair of pliers another day (removing a nail from my car tire). There is significant value for the money; our room was spacious, the amenities plentiful, and the bed quite comfortable. The coffee and water stations on the lobby level were an added touch, as was the well-stocked gift shop. Not being "breakfast people", we did not avail ourselves of the Mizzentop restaurant, which to some small part I wish was open for dinner, but as I noted, the town with its abundant restaurants is just so close, and the weather was perfect for walking. All in all, if and when we return to the area, I hope to stay at Bluenose again!"
