Central Escondido
Central Escondido blends vibrant Latino culture with historic small-town charm. Stroll down Grand Avenue to admire the restored 1920s Ritz Theater and colorful murals depicting Mexican heritage. The weekly farmers' market transforms downtown streets into a maze of produce stalls and food trucks serving fresh tortillas. The California Center for the Arts hosts performances while Grape Day Park offers a peaceful retreat. Authentic Mexican restaurants dominate the food scene with family-run taquerias serving amazing carne asada at wallet-friendly prices. Downtown is highly walkable with wide sidewalks, though having a car helps for exploring nearby attractions like Stone Brewing and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Lawrence Welk Resort Village
Tee off at The Oaks Course or catch a Broadway-style show at the dinner theater in Lawrence Welk Resort Village. This Mediterranean-inspired getaway offers a peaceful retreat with championship golf, swimming pools, and a museum celebrating the famous bandleader's legacy. Manicured gardens and oak-dotted hills create the perfect backdrop for vacation villas cascading down scenic slopes. Resort restaurants serve American comfort food with golf course views, while the on-site spa provides relaxing treatments after a day outdoors. A personal vehicle is essential as public transit is limited, though resort shuttles help you navigate the grounds. Expect quiet evenings and family-friendly amenities in this self-contained Hidden Meadows escape.
Lake Wohlford
Lake Wohlford delivers a peaceful escape where nature takes center stage just outside Escondido. The sparkling reservoir beckons fishing enthusiasts while hikers can wander oak-dotted hills with panoramic valley views. Birdwatchers spot waterfowl and raptors amid the chaparral, and photographers capture stunning sunrises reflecting off calm waters. Getting around requires your own wheels since public transit is limited in this rustic area. Accommodation options include lakeside vacation rentals and private cabins that blend into the natural landscape. Pack provisions for outdoor adventures as dining options are scarce, with Escondido proper being your best bet for restaurants.

Hidden Meadows
The quiet Hidden Meadows neighborhood is loved for its mountain views, and has lots of places to visit including The Oaks Course.

Felicita
The Felicita neighborhood has lots to see including Felicita County Park and The Centre.

Learn more about Escondido
Venture into the San Pasqual Valley where award-winning wineries like Orfila offer tastings with views that explain why Spanish settlers named this place 'hidden.' The San Diego Zoo Safari Park creates the illusion of African plains, with rhinos and giraffes roaming expansive habitats. California Center for the Arts hosts performances worth planning around, while Stone Brewing's garden setting elevates craft beer to an art form. Queen Califa's Magical Circle presents bizarre mosaic sculptures that children find enchanting and adults find puzzling. Grape Day Park provides green respite in the city center, hosting festivals that bring locals together. The mix of historic downtown and surrounding agricultural abundance creates a place that feels surprisingly rural despite being within San Diego County.

La Jolla Shores Hotel
"Incredible"
GreenTree Inn San Diego Mission Bay
"I had a great room, great bed, everything was better than I expected. Breakfast looked good but I only had time to grab yogurt and some fruit."
Inn By The Sea La Jolla
"Everything was very clean, the rooms were comfortable and the staff were incredibly friendly and amenable to care and assistance. And the location to the town center and ocean are terrific. Would definitely stay again the next time we visit La Jolla."
Hyatt Vacation Club at The Welk, San Diego Area

Sonesta ES Suites San Diego - Rancho Bernardo
"Very comfortable and clean. Well equipped for a longer stay. Will return to this property. Some maintenance issues, told desk at check out"
Pala Casino Spa And Resort
"We have stayed at Pala Casino and Resort a couple of times and have always enjoyed the beautiful building and well kept landscape. We don't gamble so I can't speak to the casino. We love the adults only pool and that is where we spend most of our time. We are appreciative of the covered parking but we missed the free valet they used to have. They said valet is now only on the weekends. Our housekeeping service was on point and every staff member we interacted with was helpful and polite. Our only complaint is that the pool menu could be better and we wish you would bring back day passes like before COVID. Pala is less than 30 minutes from our home so we will be back to enjoy your pools."
San Diego Mission Bay Resort
"It was amazing time. Very clean"
The Wayfarer San Diego
"If I return to SD, I will stay here again. If my friends are going, I will recommend the Wayfarer. The building itself may be old, but the room was newly renovated and the hotel in general was clean and fresh. I was happy the room had no carpet. The carpets in the hall were cleaned the day after we arrived. None of that mildew smell in the hallway that many beach hotels have. The location is great. Great food nearby with a short walk ( La Playa Tacos) and more great food with a longer walk or a short drive. ( Spitzs Mediterranean and Filippi’s Pizza Grotto) The staff was friendly and helpful. The pool area was amazing. Plenty of seating in the sun or shade depending on your preference. It looks out over the walkway to the beach. It is great for people watching. We also enjoyed watching the surfers. Out the gate and a few steps you can have toes in the sand. The pool area was cleaned frequently. The only improvement would be towels available at the pool. Both pool towels and bath towels were in the room. I loved that both types of towels were big towels, more like the bath sheets I use at home. The only lighting in the room was a single lamp, so more lamps or other lights would be nice. The beds were too soft for me. My husband liked the bed. Be ready to pay for parking almost everywhere you go."
Harrah's Resort Southern California Hotel & Casino - A Caesars Rewards Destination
"We always have a lovely time here. The pool is fun and the rooms are spacious."
