Top neighborhoods in New Orleans

French Quarter
Historic buildings and lively atmosphere entice tourists and locals alike, offering live music, street performances, and vibrant nightlife. Must-see spots include Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, and Café du Monde.

New Orleans Central Business District
Dynamic and mixed-use, this neighborhood boasts professional offices, historic buildings, and numerous restaurants and clubs. Explore museums like the National WWII Museum and Ogden Museum of Southern Art, or visit Harrah's Casino and Piazza d'Italia.

Lower Garden District
The Lower Garden District whispers stories through its grand Greek Revival mansions and ornate ironwork balconies. Stroll Magazine Street's tree-lined corridor where unique boutiques and craft coffee shops create a hip vibe away from tourist hotspots. The St. Charles streetcar rumbles past historic homes while the National World War II Museum offers cultural depth just steps away. Getting around couldn't be easier with three St. Charles streetcar stops and highly walkable tree-shaded sidewalks. Upscale Creole establishments anchor the dining scene while boutique hotels and historic bed & breakfasts in converted mansions provide charming accommodations with period furnishings and garden courtyards.

Faubourg Marigny
Faubourg Marigny pulses with the heartbeat of authentic New Orleans, where colorful Creole cottages stand shoulder to shoulder with lively jazz clubs. Frenchmen Street comes alive after dark with brass bands spilling music onto sidewalks and locals dancing without a care. Washington Square Park offers a shady retreat under ancient oaks, while art galleries and vintage shops dot the quieter streets with creative flair. Getting around couldn't be easier with two Saint Claude metro stops and supremely walkable streets. From cozy bed and breakfasts in restored cottages to late-night kitchens serving Creole specialties, this artistic neighborhood delivers all the flavor of New Orleans without the tourist crush of the nearby French Quarter.

Mid-City
Mid-City serves up authentic New Orleans charm without the tourist crush. Stroll under ancient oaks in City Park or paddle the cypress-lined Bayou St. John past colorful Creole cottages. The New Orleans Museum of Art showcases world-class collections while the Fairgrounds hosts the legendary Jazz Fest. Local bars and family-run restaurants dish up soul-satisfying Creole cuisine at prices that won't make your wallet weep. Getting around is a breeze with streetcars connecting to the French Quarter via Canal Street. Accommodation options range from character-filled B&Bs in restored historic homes to vacation rentals in pastel shotgun houses. The neighborhood's tree-canopied streets and front-porch culture give you a genuine taste of local life.

Beneath wrought-iron balconies, jazz pours from century-old buildings while bartenders at Napoleon House mix perfect Sazeracs. Café du Monde serves beignets under clouds of powdered sugar as streetcars creak along St. Charles Avenue past Garden District mansions. Skip Bourbon Street's neon for Frenchmen Street, where musicians play because their souls demand it. The above-ground 'cities of the dead' offer strange beauty, particularly Lafayette Cemetery No. 1. Explore the National World War II Museum or New Orleans Jazz Museum between meals. Canal Street buzzes with energy while the Audubon Insectarium reveals tiny wonders. For a quieter moment, wander the Musical Legends Park where bronze statues honor the city's sonic innovators.

"Great stay! We enjoyed the Carousel bar and the evening jazz! I would highly recommend this hotel!"

"Staff was amazing from the valet to porter, from front desk to housekeeping each person made our stay amazing."

"Always a reliable state. Clean rooms and helpful staff."
Crowne Plaza New Orleans French Qtr - Astor by IHG
"The people who work at the Front desk were wonderful!! Beautiful hotel and stay!"
Hotel Mazarin
"Hotel Mazarin was awesome! The staff were nice, friendly and helpful. The first night stay we came back from an outing and ask one of the staff members can we have an extra blanket sent to our room for the night. She said, "One moment please." She came back with 2 blankets! She told us if we need anything else, to let someone know. Housekeeping was great! They cleaned the rooms daily which I loved! Our room was on the second level facing the beautiful courtyard with the running fountain which they turn off at 9pm or 10pm daily so guest can sleep. A breakfast buffet is offered in the morning but we slept in each day. We did sit out in the courtyard and had drinks from Patrick's Bar Vin, the unique bar that's connected to Hotel Mazarin. Their drinks are excellent! Bourbon street is a few steps from the hotel but we didn't hear anything. Loved that we were close to Canal street and the Casino. Our stay at Hotel Mazarin was great! The only negative thing about the stay was the smell of the room when we first arrived, It had a musty smell but I know since the rooms are literally in the courtyard and from the rain, humidity and moisture that could happen. We could of requested a different room away from the courtyard but the smell didn't bother us once we settled in, sprayed Lysol and the smells from our daily use of body and hair products tamed the musty odor. We will return to New Orleans and stay at Hotel Mazarin again but try a room with a balcony."

New Orleans Marriott
"Good hotel but pricy. No breakfast included. Never a fan of carpet in the rooms and no extra blankets. The check-in clerk was not nice. Seemed to be racist. The concierge was very helpful in arranging tours. Parking is extremely costly at $62 a night. The location was excellent. Was able to walk to Bourbon and the Cafe Du Monde."
Sheraton New Orleans Hotel
"Overall the hotel was very nice! The pool could use an update but our room was very nice & clean. Location was amazing with Bourbon St only being about a block away & right next to Cafe Beignet. Would 100% stay here again!"
