Top neighborhoods in San Bernardino

Downtown San Bernardino
Downtown San Bernardino mixes civic energy with surprising cultural gems. Explore the History and Railroad Museum with its vintage locomotives and Route 66 memorabilia. The modern glass Transit Center connects you to Los Angeles, while occasional Route 66 Rendezvous events bring classic cars and nostalgic vibes to the streets. You'll find budget-friendly Mexican food trucks near transit areas and casual spots serving the government crowd. Most businesses close early, so plan daytime adventures. The Metrolink station makes this a convenient base for exploring Southern California without needing a car.

North Park
North Park offers a laid-back escape from San Bernardino's tourist spots with tree-lined streets and a central community park perfect for morning walks. Single-family homes and small local businesses create a genuine suburban feel where you can experience everyday American life. Kids can play on playground equipment while adults enjoy the shaded walking paths. Getting around requires wheels since public transit is limited, so keep your rental car or rideshare apps handy. Scattered family restaurants serve up comfort food and Mexican cuisine at prices that won't break the bank. Vacation rentals in residential homes provide an authentic stay experience with more space and privacy than downtown accommodations.

University District
California State University San Bernardino anchors this neighborhood with its sprawling campus full of modern buildings and tree-lined walkways. Students zip around on skateboards between lecture halls, the student union, and nearby pizza joints. The university's art installations, sports facilities, and cultural events give visitors plenty to explore, while hiking paths in the nearby foothills offer a break from campus life. Budget-friendly eateries surround the area, from coffee shops to ethnic takeout spots that won't empty your wallet. While accommodation is mostly student-oriented, the neighborhood makes up for it with its laid-back vibe and easy access to San Bernardino's attractions like Glen Helen Regional Park.
Orange Show
The Orange Show neighborhood pulses with the excitement of year-round festivals and races at its namesake Events Center. The speedway roars to life with oval track events while weekend swap meets transform fairgrounds into treasure hunting paradise. From concerts to cultural celebrations, entertainment seekers find their rhythm in this unpretentious corner of San Bernardino. Budget-friendly motels and chain hotels cater to event attendees with practical comforts. The area connects easily to downtown via I-215 and the nearby SB Line train station, making day trips a breeze. Dining focuses on casual Mexican-American eateries and food trucks that shine during bustling festival weekends.

"Everything was great but when it came to trying to reach someone at the front desk via phone it was so difficult. I wish it would’ve been easier to get assistance."

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Bernardino
"Overall wasn’t bad. Not the nicest most upkept hotel, but overall decent. Had to book last minute. Everyone was nice. Beds comfortable. Clean. Definitely worth the price. Would stay again"
Hotel Xola
"This is a good option. Just slightly rough around the edges, with some pictures missing from the walls. The upgraded room I was in was still very spartan and there was no guide available for the TV channels, but it was okay."
Marriott Riverside at the Convention Center
"There were renovations going on so better signage for rest rooms would have been helpful. When I got ready to check out there was parking on my bill and I said I did not use parking. They deleted one day, I said I was there 3 nights there should be no parking. They said they would handle. Only 2 days was credited and I did not see this until I returned home next day, so one day still not credited. Bed was uncomfortable. Felt like mattress was a rock or at least slept on for so long that it was so compacted. Room was spacious and loved shower, suggest better non-slippery surface for seniors that are concerned about falls. No I did not request a handicap accessible room; but this seems like common sense. Restaurant staff very friendly as was housekeeping. Would stay again as accessibility to freeway was easy and great parking ( my daughter used)."
