Going to CR by myself; the staff at Gardens House were awesome. They treated me and those I met that also stayed there very well. I will def return to this place when I come back.
I was a little worried during the taxi ride to the hotel that I had made a terrible mistake in picking the hotel as some of the areas look a little rough (by American standards), however, once at the gated hotel I realized that I indeed had made a good choice when choosing the location as the property is incredibly calming and beautiful. Just know that since you are out of the city you will need to use Uber eat or a taxi to get food as there is no onsite restaurant.
The staff at the Bougainvillea welcome and get to know each and every one of their guests. You feel like you are a guest in their own home. We stayed here last year on our trip to Costa Rica. Last year, the young woman who works the front desk was extremely helpful to us, so we came back this year. Everything was excellent, service, food and the most beautiful people.
One thing that really annoyed me, every time your phone is unused for more than 10 minutes, you have to re-enter the WiFi code, as well as with your laptop
This is a brand new property, recently built. This hotel has a great location, steps from the Costa Rica Convention Center, there are shopping malls, clinics, restaurants, at walkable distance.
There is shuttle service to the SJO airport,
Breakfast was great too including costarican typical food.

The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and the breakfast buffet exceeded my expectations. You can even request a bag breakfast to go when leaving the hotel before 6am.
We only stayed here for an evening as a stop over before our flight but we really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and really helped us out when we couldn’t get an Uber due to a local event. The rooms were modern and clean and the pool area was peaceful.
Wonderful little family run hotel, friendly, such nice people! Free airport shuttle, wonderful free breakfast, delicious coffee. Very safe and secure for single elderly women traveler. I find no fault whatsoever with this hotel. I liked everything. It had a safe in the room where I could lock up my electronic devices whenever I wanted. The complimentary breakfast was very good with a wide variety of foods. Plenty of hot water. Free coffee in the room and at breakfast. You can buy expensive or less expensive food at the restaurant. We had a wonderful Christmas week at Canal Grande Lodge! Raffael and his staff were excellent hosts who made sure we had everything we needed. The small hotel was quiet and beautifully situated. You could walk to restaurants and a few small local stores. We enjoyed Santa Margaritas down the street on 2 nights of our stay. Your staff was Super-helpful during my 4 nights there….. Kendall, Rebecca, Genesis, Alejandro & David all helped me with logistics and reservations and general information. They were attentive, accurate, helpful & polite. Plus, they helped me with my fairly lame Español….
We were pleasantly surprised at this hotel. It is just as the pictures show and better. Our room and the rest of the hotel was spotless. Front desk and restaurant/bar staff were very kind. We only stayed one night but I would definitely come back. Free shuttle to airport was great as well.
You feel welcome the minute you set foot in the hotel! Staff is very helpful and at ease! Our shower didn't have hot water and they offered us immediately another bigger room with a great view as well. We kept our little room with our incredible view. Luckily the water problem was fixed very soon. :-)

Although this hotel is located close to the airport and all the city amenities it feels like being deeper in the rain forest, perhaps because is surrounded by nature everywhere you look. Very quiet location, room was clean as well as the rest of the facilities, striking views, relaxing pools and private Jacuzzis.
