My whole family loved our stay at Hotel Margarita in August 2024. The area of Drake Bay was pretty, but it is very rustic (dirt roads, limited dining, restaurants are open-air with no A/C, etc). Really great staff who really know the area and cultivate the farm. They can give you information on ecology you won't find outside of guided tour groups in the park, and there's also yoga. The property is beautiful and it is easy to see birds. It is a pretty primitive property and so you should be expecting bug bites and no modern comforts. Bathing in rainwater is amazing, but it is also not warm. Also the ants really bite- I was itchy for a week afterward. So be careful.

If you are looking for a regular hotel experience then this is not for you, however if you want a true home away from home experience with the local Tico family then you cannot go wrong with this option. Edward the reservations lead is always present and the kitchen is run by his mom and sister. The dad is the wealth of knowledge about local area and the uncle is the gardener. The abundant fruit trees was a pleasant surprise and so was the close proximity of the Macaws.

The cabina had an extra extraordinary view. We loved that the bedrooms were closed off and did have air conditioning, but that the rest of the unit was completely open The house cleaning staff did an excellent job of cleaning every morning I had laundry done, and it was very reasonably priced and done very well The unit is within walking distance to almost everything but best of all the beach is right there!

Solid choice for stays in Drake. AC in rooms. Fairly simple clean rooms. Saw Capuchin monkeys and other animals in the early morning and evening from the terrace overlooking the forest. Up the hill from the bay near restaurants.

I had a great stay here. Norlyn gave me directions on how to arrive to Drake's Bay and picked me up from beach. He showed me around the town as well. The hotel was within waking distance of restaurants, hiking trail and beach. It's quiet and has good internet. Breakfast was good. It was clean. The people there were very friendly and helpful. He also helped me to book tours for the week.

A cute super well ran hotel away from town, the staff was the best we've ever had at a location. This is a family run place that makes you feel like family while you are there. The food is great! We stayed 8 days and never repeat a breakfast. The staff set up 7 different excursions with us and coordinated our pick up and drop offs. I was at the last cabana on the ridge. It had a kitchen in an attached room. It was great to bring back leftovers, make coffee and enjoy local fruit. There were 2 beds, a king and queen. The shower was walk in and everything worked well and was very clean. I ate at the table on the patio, enjoyed the hammock, and entertained by a multitude of birds, ant eater and ajouti. I would definitely come back.

This place is fantastic. Wonderful location and amenities. The food here is 5-star and the service is even better. I loved the grounds of the hotel. Just be aware there are a lot of steps to get to your room. A lot. Even still I will be back.

The property is located away from town but close enough to walk. There is a fabulous restaurant on site. Very easy access to the beach. Rolando was very informative and helped us get set up for our tour the following morning. The staff were waiting for us when we arrived by boat shuttle and helped with our luggage. Nice place; nice views; staff helpful. I'd go back

Good aircondition and comforteble beds. Near to the sea.

Sunset Lodge truly did have one of the best views in Drake bay! It’s worth spending a little more to get the bungalow with the pool. It was great hanging out on the deck after a day at the beach or doing a guided activity. Also, if you like birding it’s a great spot to sit and watch! We had parrots and macaws flying over and landing in the trees right next to the bungalow. There were several local iguanas that live in the trees as well! We spent four nights at Poor Man's, including New Year's Eve. I was hoping to find a place where we could really get away from the world, and this was perfect. We didn't even make any plans ahead of time as far as tours or what to do, but by the time we left we had visited Corcovado, snorkeled on Cano Island, Canoed up the Rio Claro, and swam and relaxed at Playa Josecito.
