"Do not judge this hotel from the outside appearance. From the moment of check-in, the staff are friendly and very helpful. The decor is perhaps a little dated, but everything is clean (in fact spotless). A really comfortable room and very little noise from either internal or external sources. Plenty of parking space. Food was really good and the portions generous. The visitor book is full of superlatives."

"This property has a lot of potential. Our room was very sparse and not inviting. Not what we expected in a castle. The common rooms were very beautiful and fun to lounge in. The bar and restaurant staff didn't seem very knowledgable about their menus, although the food was very good. The grounds were nice but could have been beautified a little."

"The view from the dining room (across the first tee at Royal Dornoch, and over the Dornoch Firth) is stunning. Food (dinner and breakfast) was excellent, and the staff were very helpful. Our only disappointment was the view from our bedroom, featuring a fire escape and staff walkway. Not important as we were only staying one night, but I will check the room before booking when I return."
