Great location in Kaiserslautern. Walking distance to bars, restaurants and shopping. There is no elevator so 2nd floor is four flights up. It was good exercise for us but any one with back, knee or frail will want to think twice. Also like many European hotels, the shower is tiny. But staff is so helpful and had great communication. I would stay again.

Make you time your trip to arrive before 10 pm! Otherwise the front desk is closed and you will not be able the check in. We did have a problem checking out. We booked and prepaid with Expedia and the system would not let us check out. They wanted another CC payment! We booked 7 months in advance and in that time the systems changed. It was a glitch in the system on their end and they ultimately let us go.
This was my first time staying at a European hotel so I wasn't sure what to expect. Checkin was different from my previous hotel experiences in that your credit card is not taken until you are ready to check out. It's a good thing that one can have payment processed the day before checkout as the front desk does not open until 8AM on the weekends. Keys are simply left at the front desk on the day of checkout if the desk was closed.

I recommend getting a room in the main building if possible. I was in a side building with no elevator, and with some physical issues I had, it was difficult to carry my bags. The restaurant was excellent, and known for its grilled beef dishes. The hotel is conveniently located for bicycling along and into the nearby hills. It's also conveniently located for hiking.
