I think very few gaijin go this far out. Some of the communication was difficult but the staff tried really hard and we enjoyed the stay
Hard to navigate getting to and from major stations and it snowed one day at end of March
Overall I’m glad we did it for the experience to be immersed in Japanese culture.
Really fun place for a relaxing getaway especially to socialize with your close friends or significant others. There is not much to do in the area unless you have a car.
My wife and I just completed a delightful 2-day stay at this impeccable property. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The well-designed room was very comfortable and very reasonably priced. The bed was very comfortable as well. The shower had the best shower head we have ever experienced in any hotel ever! This was the perfect, quiet place to rest easy while visiting the nearby shrines and Tobu World Square. Highly recommended!
We had Unit C and it was very comfortable for our group of 7 (4 adults, 3 kids (13,11,6)). There are directions on how to use everything. The beds and bedding are incredible comfortable. The bath tub gets nice and hot! The kitchen has all the dishes, utensils, cups, etc. you might need. I do wish there was some coffee available for the mornings, but now we know to bring our own. The surround sound projector TV is cool for access to streaming services.

Good spot. We had an all ages group and the teens loved having their very own rooms for a few days. The organization of the hotel was very thoughtful for both Japanese and English-speaking tourists. Eg long list of stuff you can borrow in case you forgot, tea and coffee always available in lobby, robes and slippers, laundry machines (which we didn’t try). Very convenient to buses and trains. Beautiful views of the mountains surrounding Nikko from our rooms.
Convenient location for walking to the shrines, etc. The Annex is located a bit further than the first Turtle Inn, but is still a lovely establishment. Kind staff.
Hotel is a bit off the beaten tourist track, but worth it for a quiet visit. Great value for money and the host is so kind!! I was traveling solo and felt very welcome and safe. Easy walk to the abyss. By far one of the best dinners and breakfasts I had in Japan!!
Onsen was very nice and clean. The outdoor area was beautiful! They have everything you need already stocked: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and then towels, hair dryers, lotions and other body care items. If you have tattoos, you will need to cover them before going into the onsen. The front desk sells a pack of 10 tattoo cover patches for 250 yen. We really enjoyed dinner and breakfast and the open bar serving sake, hot wine and beer in the lobby when we arrived was a pleasant and welcomed...
This place was a Mom & Pop operation with a very familial atmosphere. Ken and Ise were very welcoming and helpful with helping us get settled, finding our way around Nikko and just generally friendly and helpful. If you're interested in a more homey atmosphere vs. Corporate hotel this is the place for you
