The region around Yamakawa Onsen is home to attractions such as Kusumi Plateau and Kuju Mountains. Visitors speak highly of this welcoming city's restaurants and small-town setting.
It was the perfect gateway into our Ryokan/onsen experience with beautiful & spacious accommodations in a super private and relaxing setting. Having our own onsen with view of the mountains was an absolute dream after a week in the big cities.
The attentive staff were exceptional and brought dinner to our room that we cooked over the coals for a unique experience.
Overall an incredible retreat to come back to after a busy day of onsen hopping. Truly a first class experience!
It was beautiful. We loved everything about it. The food was great says my boyfriend. I don’t eat sushi or fish lol but what I did have was great. The service is beyond amazing. Everything was perfect. I wish we stayed longer. The plum store is amazing. My advice is if you like it get lol
First off let me preface this by saying that you have to be open minded. Some foreigners want to go to a place and have it be just like home but in another country. If you are looking for a western style hotel that has a happening nightlife and tons of bars and people around, then this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for the real Japanese experience with a nice quiet getaway and amazing private onsens (private hot spring soaking baths) then this is your place. The staff was...
Great Ryokan. The property is beautiful and it's not far from the Kumamoto limousine bus stop (the hotel gives you rides to and from the stop anyway). Short walking distance to a bunch of restaurants and the main area of the town.
Top notch service and super clean. The outdoor onsen is incredible.
A few (minor) complaints:
-Some of the decorations are a bit tacky
-You only get one bath towel during your stay. If you want an extra one you have to pay extra. This seemed...weird given the...
A very nice Ryokan with beautiful onsens on a small hill slope hidden away from the group of other busy ones. Rooms are clean and tidy. The boss and all staffs are very nice and whole heartily to help with every detail to make our stay a very wonderful one. We enjoyed very much and definitely will come back to Ryokan ichinoi when we visit Kurosawa in the future.
This was the first time my best friend Lina and I had stayed at a ryokan, and although it was a perfect trip overall, the only difficult part was walking up the hill to the ryokan with our luggage. The staff were very kind, and the two breakfasts and two dinners, each featuring exquisite delicacies, left us in awe every time. The temperature of the hot spring water was just right and gentle. What truly moved us, however, happened after we had checked out. While we were waiting in line at the...
Boutique bed and breakfast type facility. Had a wonderful time at the hotel. Please keep in mind is a small cozy hotel. There isn't too much amenities but staff was great with what they offer. If you are looking for a nice place to relax with a beautiful mountain backdrop this is the place to be.
I loved it! Despite not speaking much Japanese I had a great time. It was really easy to get to from Yufuin station by taxi since there’s a taxi stand right there. The only hard part is if you don’t have a car, getting to and from the station once the front desk closes is somewhat difficult. I brought food with me and snacks before arriving. The water temperature is perfect and the room I rented was beautiful!
