The hotel was great! Very nice place, nice rooms. Bathrooms were all updated despite the inn being 500 years old. Beds were comfortable, there was enough space for our family of 4 in the family room. Very neat old building with the huge old wood beams. Innkeepers were very welcoming. The staff were outstanding. The owners, Pat and Lyn, were the friendliest pub landlord and landlady in Britain. Ruby was a fantastic host and Andy was incredibly charming. The bar itself was beautifully constructed and thye home made Steak and Ale pie was the best meal I've ever had. The home made chili was next level perfection.
Our 16 night stay here in Jun/Jul of 2015 redefined the meaning of hospitality for us. From the manager on down, the service was superb: Zyta and Natalie are superstars! we had a lovely stay. the lady at the B&B gave us step by step directions to the house when we got lost. Breakfast was wonderful. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
We had to walk up 42 steps to get to our room carrying our baggage. The place is adequate but dated and the hot water difficult to adjust safely. A window in our room was ajar and there was rot and mold around the frame which caused us to leave it that way. There is no one attending the front desk as the person who checked us in did double duty in the restaurant. The food was fine.
Sweet hotel with pub in the middle of Alton. Very convenient location and very cozy, comfortable room. Staff was great. We had dinner and food was top notch. We were there during the intense heat wave and there was no air conditioning, but I don’t think there is any in the village. Staff was accommodating with fans.
