You are in a remote lodge where you hike in for 45 min to 3 hours depending on how many animals( monkeys, anteaters, scarlet macaws) you stop to watch. A horse cart brings in your luggage. We spent four nights at Poor Man's, including New Year's Eve. I was hoping to find a place where we could really get away from the world, and this was perfect. Sunset Lodge truly did have one of the best views in Drake bay! It’s worth spending a little more to get the bungalow with the pool. It was great hanging out on the deck after a day at the beach or doing a guided activity. Also, if you like birding it’s a great spot to sit and watch! We had parrots and macaws flying over and landing in the trees right next to the bungalow. There were several local iguanas that live in the trees as well!

Edward the reservations lead is always present and the kitchen is run by his mom and sister. The dad is the wealth of knowledge about local area and the uncle is the gardener. The abundant fruit trees was a pleasant surprise and so was the close proximity of the Macaws.
Really great staff who really know the area and cultivate the farm. They can give you information on ecology you won't find outside of guided tour groups in the park, and there's also yoga. The property is beautiful and it is easy to see birds.
It is a pretty primitive property and so you should be expecting bug bites and no modern comforts. Bathing in rainwater is amazing, but it is also not warm. Also the ants really bite- I was itchy for a week afterward. So be careful.
