As we drove down a dirt road to The Pink Flamingo, we wondered what we were getting into. As soon as we walked into the villa, we were smitten! It was gorgeous, beautiful, exquisite! The Stella Maris staff is the highlight of the facility. They immediately become family and treat you as such. The facility is very clean and very well kept. This is a fascinating property that was a pleasure to be in. Muksin and Catherine were great host. The room was excellent. There are some limitations if you have difficulty walking because of the nature of the steps. If you are fully mobile, it will be a wonderful experience.
We had been promised a driver to take us from the airport to the lodge, and he was there waiting in spite of the l-o-n-g entry process and the late hour. And, he is a very good driver, even where the roads were iffy. We were offered a late light supper, which was perfect. In the morning, the manager greeted us with "Come see the mountain. It's the first time in a month!" He led us to a huge deck jutting out over a gorge, and there in front of us was a crystal clear Kilimanjaro. Wow! ...
I really enjoyed my stay. This is a discount B&B with good service and spacious rooms. If you haven't been to Moshi yet, this hotel is slightly out of the town center. I would urge you to avoid the town center - it is really noisy and the air isn't good. On hot Tanzanian days, these things matter. The Secret Garden is adjacent to an open field and it is quiet. Also, the owner Daudi is an interesting person - ask him to tell you the story of this property - it's quite interesting!
