This hotel is an efficiency hotel, so expect that, efficiency. The front desk always had someone speaking English available. The internet is a little flaky, but is included in the price. The location is really good, central to most things, and convenient to shopping. Construction is happening all around, so expect some noise, but it's not bad. The price is very good, housekeeping is done well, and the staff is very friendly.

"Not great for tourists"

I booked this hotel to save a little bit of money. I now wish that I had gone ahead and spent the extra cash to be more centrally located. This hotel was not close to any of Chengdu's tourist sights and cabs were a little hard to get. There were a few restaurants in the area but they tended to cater to the locals. Most of the restaurants were small and didn't have English menus. If you don't mind eating at a open air, street food restaurant, you would be pleased with the quality of the food and how cheap it is. But chances are you would be eating at makeshift tables with dogs running around. This can be pleasant for some, but definitely a turn off for other people. The free breakfast in the hotel was very good. It had both Western and Chinese dishes. There was also free internet in the rooms. One big turn off was upon checking out, they made me wait for the maid to count the towels. She couldn't find one and they were going to charge me for it, until I told them to check the on the bed. Sure enough it was there and I was free to go. There are 3 Holiday Inns in Chengdu and I didn't have the address written out in Chinese characters. My cab driver didn't understand so he drove me to the huge Holiday Inn Century City. It took about an hour and about $20 to correct this mistake. So

Planned on visiting Chengdu, but had no clear idea where to stay. After reading a few reviews on this hotel and considering the great price in comparison to other hotels, I took a wild chance and booked it. Am I glad! This hotel lived up to its best recommendations. It is exceedingly comfortable, well located in downtown Chengdu, very affordable, and the staff try exceptionally hard to please. The bottom line... felt like a home away from home. Pays to read other people's recommendations. This hotel gets my award for accomodations in Chengdu.
