Carlton Hotel & Spa Kinsale

spent two nights at this beautiful hotel. kinsale is the BEST! best breakfast we had in ireland! be sure to use the hotel shuttle to get to/from kinsale (3e pp/per ride), as it leaves every 30 mins. didn't realize the hotel location was so outside of kinsale and we got very lost finding it but once we knew, it was easy to find. pool was nice too yet […] busy with local people. quiet and comfortable, beautiful views too. staff were very friendly and helpful. bar food was delicious too! wonderful value for your money - be sure to ask about any deals! we spend 50e for bed and breakfast for this 4 star! would absolutely return in a heartbeat. Lovely Hotel, very nice breakfast, receptionists excellent, room cleaning and stale bathroom smell not dealt with by house cleaning. Cheap shuttlebus availabe though we only found out by accident about this but very handy all the same. would have given it 4 stars but for the poor room cleaning.

Paid for upgrade to delux room with harbour view for birthday treat. Room was no different from other rooms seen on the same floor except for a corner window. Wouldn't have bothered with upgrade. Information scarce on check in with no word of breakfast but more importantly not advised of shuttle bus until we requested a taxi in the evening and were […] told we had just missed the shuttle. We could've easily been there five mins earlier had we known. No info given then either re time or frequence of shuttle or cost which is apparently €3 pp each way. Thought from website hotel was within walking distance of Kinsale but it would be a long walk! Enquired re 'delux' status of room on check out but didn't get any satisfaction there either. We recently stayed at the Carlton in Kinsale and was very disappointed with the hotel. After specifically asking for a NON smoking room at reception our room hummed of cigarettes. We phoned reception who said they could not transfer us, housekeeping would have to come and investigate. 30 mins later housekeeping arrived and immediately agreed. They "sprayed" […] the room and we were told to go to the bar and wait. 1.5 hours later somebody called us at the bar to say our room was "ready". In fairness the room smelt OK but we wasted 2 hours of a 1 night stay and not as much as an apology did we did nor cup of tea. Also, there was no hairdryer in the room and it took 2 phone calls to reception to have this rectified. The overall hotel is tired and disappointedly grubby. Gardens and landscaping fab, shame more attention not paid to rooms. Shuttle bus ride (at a cost) into Kinsale. Poor quality of room service food and breakfast. Very average hotel

A very nice Hotel with great views and staff very nice, only negative was the breakfast selection/quality not great

Fab design and beautiful surroundings. did not really get the wow factor feeling or warmth of welcome from reception team however the general manager definately has her guests interests at heart with a genuine passion for customer service. only downside was amount of wasps in both the receptio and the restrraunt very off putting especially if like myself […] you are alergic too stings. outside is understandable but flies and wasps should never be present in that amount around food service. that said this hotel is stunning and exceptionally clean. It is also very good value for money and breakfast is fantastic. all bar and waiting staff were very efficent and friendly. I will stay again. Leer más

Lovely rural view from seaview side of hotel, good pool/ leisure facility, excellent beakfast....5 miles outside of kinsale so a car required to sightsee but a lovely walk in if the shoes are suitable and the weather kind ! taxi service available to dine in kinsale's many wonderful eateries at night and if staying in the in house food is grand. ...relaxing […] break venue. My wife and I stayed two nights at the Carlton Kinsale and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The views of the bay were magnificent, the health club and spa was soothing and our room was a pleasure. The Hotel staff was professional and courteous as well. We hope to visit the Carlton Kinsale again! Many thanks!

Was staying there for a wedding. Stayed in both the hotel and in one of the garden suites which are also stunning. The features surrounding the hotel are amazing. Its like driving through a safari park from the entrance to the hotel itself. As best man at the wedding, I don't think ive ever dealt with such unbelievable staff!! Great hotel, excellent and friendly staff

This hotel had the best views from our room in our entire 14 day trip! The hotel is very well maintained, the stay were very friendly and helpful when we had questions. Te restraunt food was superb. Highy recommend very good deal.

I stayed here last weekend and I can not recommend it enough, Gorgeous hotel in a secluded location, great food, friendly helpful staff. The Spa and Leisure centre were gorgeous and so relaxing. Great hotel for kids and adults - suits all! I will be booking another weekend here very soon!!

The Carlton Hotel Kinsale is a welcome relief after several days of staying in more traditional accommodations. Although located about ten minutes outside of town center in the countryside, the design of the hotel, takes full advantage of it's panoramic views from an elevated site over looking river and bay and out to rolling countryside. This hotel probably was a very nice hotel in its day but it is now fairly shabby. The rugs in the halls need to be replaced and the room needs to be redecorated. I would not stay here again

Lovely location (although a slight drive from town) but I was very unhappy about the internet wi-fi charge. Both the hotel's own website and their information folder contained within the room claimed "complimentary" wi-fi internet access if you used your own computer. We were given 30 minutes for free (which had to be used up all at once) and then were […] told would have to pay for any additional. They were willing to give another 30 minutes the next day. I pointed out that their website and information folder within the room didn't say "30 minutes complimentary and then a charge for additional" but the clerk behind the desk wouldn't budge. I would not have stayed here had I known in advance the real internet charge policy. I will never come here again and will advise any friends traveling to Ireland that this hotel does not hold to its advertising claims. Leer más

Difficult to reach without a car, but in a beautiful setting. Very welcoming & obliging staff. Costs of meals at hotel extremely expensive especially breakfast. Overall a pleasant stay.

Had a fabulous time, the swimming pool facilities and gym are the best I have ever seen at a hotel!

I stayed at the Carlton Hotel for New Years Eve with my boyfriend. Staff were really helpfully and friendly. There was a shuttle bus provided all night to and from the town centre. Got a complimentary glass of champagne which really won me over! Room was perfect lots of mirrors and good light for make up and fake tan application! Didn't have breakfast […] but had dinner. Dinner wasn't mind blowing but still very nice and waiting staff were lovely. We went to the Folkhouse that night for countdown which had great live music, a big open fire and brilliant bar service. Let me begin with the positives, the hotel is in a beautiful location with stunning scenery and views from the hotel. The sunset and moon rise were spectacular. The negatives were the staff or at least their attitude. We reported that our shower was broken on our first morning. When we left two days later nothing had been done. Similarly, our room smelt […] of stale smoke and we asked simply for it to be sprayed with air freshener- and yes you've guessed it nothing happened. We got the general feeling that a small fortune had been spent in building the hotel and that not much had been spent since. Staff seem disgruntled. A remark on perhaps closing the windows as the foyer was cool was matched with the response of "what's the point" they won't let us turn up the heating! The pool was nice apart from the screaming kids running around it, whilst obviously I can't necessarily blame hotel for this. I can however for the clearly already used towel provided to us. In summary, this hotel has a fantastic potential but at the moment, the staff and general atmosphere leave a lot to be desired. Also be warned the hotel is not within walking distance of Kinsale town. Leer más

Absolutely stunning hotel right on the river and not too far from Kinsale by car but it is over a narrow third class road for the last few kilometers. Very good service and a beautiful room. Restaurant was very good eventhough we used the bar menu (which is a lot less expensive than the restaurant menu.) The complimentary continental breakfast was fine; […] the full hot breakfast will set you back 14 euro. Definitely worth considering when you go to Kinsale. Leer más

Very nice hotel to get away from it all but for travelers who wanted to see the town of Kinsale, it was inconvenient being so far away.

We enjoyed the reception staff who went out of their way to assist us in local sightseeing. The room was small, but contained all of the necessary amenities we needed. We really enjoyed this hotel - but if you have a rental car: Beware the long private drive in is one narrow lane and the locals don't care that you prefer not to run over oncoming traffic […] as you attempt to back up to avoid collision. The hotel was fab. So modern and clean with a lovely pool, bar and restaurant. Its a bit far from town. You would not walk from town to hotel but prefect for relaxation

I specifically booked a non-smoking twin bed room but was given a room with a double bed and the room stank of stale smoke. I feel that a non-smoking room sticker had just been put on the door and this was definitely not a non-smoking room. It had been well used by smokers. I did not make a fuss as I was a guest at a friends wedding but I definitely […] did not get what I booked and paid for. I wil not be going back. Leer más

It might be a 5 minute drive outside of the center of Kinsale, but this private location has amazing views of the bay & countryside. Lovely restaurant & bar on site as well as an indoor pool, jacuzzi, and spa to keep you occupied. I would definitely return to Kinsale again & certainly make a point to stay at the Carlton.

This hotel is only a couple of years old and so the hotel still feels quite new. The view over the inlet and onto farmed fields is wonderful and you can see this view from some of the bedrooms, from the lobby, the restaurant and two rooms linked to the bar so there's plenty of opportunities to enjoy it. There's also a short walk down to the waterfront […] (not a beach, just a small stretch of sand.). The rooms were generously sized and comfortable, but I thought considering the overall sense of luxury that they skimped on a few details (no bathrobes, not even upon request, no bottled water). The hotel is a couple of miles outside of Kinsale, but if you're looking for a luxury-feel treat with a spa and still want to enjoy the fine dining in Kinsale, this one can work for you. Leer más

Hotel was very good especially the leisure spa, best hotel pool I have visited for a holiday yet. I would recommend to my friends and relatives. Staff helpfull and pleasant, hotel taxis was very usefull for seeing resort at night. Food good in hotel. Only thing missing was a mini bar in rooms which would of been useful.

A real surprise. Just outside Kinsale but felt like a million miles away. We didn't have dinner in the hotel so can't comment on that. There are two rooms with comfy chairs if you fancy a bite or a chat without having to be in your room. Our room didn't have a bath which we missed and also the toiletries are on the skimpy side. They didn't have […] Earl Grey tea at breakfast but otherwise a really fantastic spread of full Irish and all sorts of healthy options. Pool and spa area is lovely with great views and the gym is a good size. Gym even had Bosu balls which was impressive. I'd deffo go back and am planning a girlie spa break soon. Leer más

When we picked the Carlton in Kinsale for my daughter's wedding we did so because our first impressions were very good and it lived up to every one of them. The entrance firstly is very impressive and when you arrive at the hotel itself the landscaping etc. is very surprising to say the least. On the day the staff were very helpful, the conference […] room is a lovely shape with the water as a backdrop, the meal was excellent, didn't hear a complaint and we had normal moaners amongst us!! We brough our own wine and what really impressed us was that they returned what they had left over honestly - all in all a day to remember and I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone. Very pleased with my stay at the carlton hotel kinsale, the rooms were very comfortable and had all necessities. The views were stunning overlooking the river or waterfall. The only complaint i had was 11 am check out which is early on sunday morning after a wedding. i would go back again.
