Fantastic views from our balcony of the still unspoilt East Coast This is an original 1930s Hotel with mahogany hand made furniture. Somewhat tired now but plans are underway for a refit in the summer. Kind and helpful Staff Excellent Bajan buffet on Sundays

If you are fussy about your hotel conditions then this place is not for you. If you want to truly experience the local lifestyle of Barbados - this is the place for you. The scenery is astonishingly beautiful. We would certainly return.

Overall we had a very nice experience at the Edgewater Hotel. The hotel is dated but they are in the process of updating. The staff was very helpful and the room was nice and clean. Bathsheba is so breathtakingly beautiful. The hotel is very old but thats the charm. Traveling on the bus was fun but I would deffinately reccomend renting a car to get aroung because the average cost to cab one way from Bridgetown to Bathsheba is $30 US.

The location of this hotel and the great surf and wonderful staff are great. but the rates doubled and our room still did not have a door handle onto the balcony--we stayed in the same room last spring. the large screen tv in the lobby was gone, as was access to a computer--they had one available for guests last year. they lost their icemaker so we […] had to go to the bar for ice--which they had to get out of bags--it was a bother to the staff. but the staff was still friendly and very informative and we loved our stay even if it was much less convenient this year as well as being twice the price. I'll start by saying the New Edgewater was pretty much what I expected. The reviews are right in saying the rooms are very "basic" (but comfortable) and the hotel itself looks like it was probably a nice hotel 20-30 years ago but hasn't seen much upkeep/renovation since then, pretty run down in areas. The big selling points are the low price, an absolutely […] AMAZING view from the outside deck (cliffs, big waves, undeveloped coastline), and if you're an EXPERIENCED surfer Soup Bowl is a 5 minute walk down the beach. If you're looking for a nice, polished, resort where you sit on a white sand beach under an umbrella and sip on your rum punch this is NOT the place for you. If you like rugged, undeveloped coastline (without many amenities) and are looking for an inexpensive (though somewhat rundown - you get what you pay for) hotel this IS the place for you. Leer más

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the NewEdgewater, even if the name is a bit misleading. It is a rather old facility, and it exists in a harsh environment perched on a cliff overlooking the beach, exposed to constant salt spray brought by relentless trade winds of 20 - 30mph and intense sun. And this bit of coast doesn't receive many tourists; they […] are on the west and south sides of the island. So I suspect that money is tight for the management. Nevertheless, the accommodations were adequate for the price (Barbados isn't cheap). The best activity at the NewEdgewater is sitting in the outdoor dining room deck watching and listening to the surf crashing against the rocks below. I did that for several hours during my stay. Walks along the beach were grand, as was a walk to the Andromeda Botanical Gardens (next time I would take the bus there and walk back). Unfortunately, the government actively discourages people from swimming in the ocean here due to rip currents; if I were younger I would challenge this (the surfers don't seem to be bothered by this decree). I suppose my one dissatisfaction with the hotel (and the area in general) is a relative paucity of places to eat, and the quality of food served at NewEdgewater. We had no car, and several of the places were too far to go by foot. We ate once at the neighboring Round House, which is significantly more expensive, but with much better food. Leer más

Close to the "soup bowl" surfing location as well as the main Bathsheba bus stop. The view from our room balcony and the view from the pool area is nice, looking onto the ocean. The staff were friendly and answered questions fairly well. The beach is accessible via stairs leading from the hotel. The room was basic, but the bed was large and comfortable […] and the bathroom was clean. The included continental breakfast is simple, but good, and you can sit on the covered patio overlooking the sea while you start your day. This hotel and the area in general are a place to get away and relax. Even though we were there in early January, it was quite quiet at the hotel. The restaurant menu is limited, the food was OK, and the service was good. In our room, the light from the hallway shone into the room and there wasn't any way to rig up something to block it. Trash and litter along the poorly maintained concrete stairs on the hotel property leading to the beach were unacceptable. (Trash on the actual beach in front of the hotel is clearly not their responsibility, but they could benefit their guests by spending a few minutes picking it up now and again.) The hotel would also benefit guests by providing a simple (hand drawn?) map of the area. Except for a few restaurants within a couple of blocks of the hotel, it was difficult to find what else there was (convenience store, rum shop, whatever). When asked, the staff would just generally point towards twisting, poorly marked roads. A car would be nice if staying more than a few days. However, a bus comes hourly that goes to Bridgetown. I wish the people who managed this hotel had been more honest when I repeatedly called to check on how they had fared after the storm. We love the hotel, but the lack of fresh food, the jerry rigged electricity, few TV choices were really disappointing. They served food at dinner that was clearly left over from their popular lunch buffet. There were […] few vegetables or fresh fruit, which could have been purchased in the cities on the other coast. The Atlantic coast of Barbados is gorgeous. To reach the New Edgewater, you drive through hills covered in tropical rain forest, and driving down from the hills see the ocean ahead. The New Edgewater is at the bottom of the hills perched on a cliff above a rocky beach -- it's truly breathtaking. At the back of the hotel is dense rain forest. The original […] part of the hotel was built in the 18th century, and it has a weighty historic feel. A wing was added in the 1940s, and most of the rooms are in this "new" section -- however, there are apparently four suites in the old section, which look out over the ocean. We had a second floor room with a balcony that overlooked a lovely courtyard and pool, with the ocean in view beyond. Upon arrival we were greeted by Erica, who offered us complimentary rum punch. Erica was terrific and helpful our whole stay -- she offered us good suggestions for food and booked us a great catamaran cruise that included snorkeling and swimming with sea turtles (Tiami Cruise, highly recommend it). At the New Edgewater, you definitely feel like you have gotten away from it all. In contrast to the Carribean side of the island, there is very little here. There are two other older hotels nearby, both of which have restaurants (we ate at the Round House, which you can walk to), a small village with cottages and a few small restaurants/rum shops. But mostly just nature! At night, it is very quiet. The hotel restaurant shuts down by 9 (you must put in your food order before 8), and there is not much to do other than look at the stars and the ocean and listen to the crickets. We didn't mind at all. We slept very well -- our room was comfortable and air-conditioned and decorated with lovely hand-made mahogany furniture. There was no noise except for the sounds of the waves. However, the Edgewater is probably not for everyone. The place is definitely old and hasn't been updated in some time. If you're looking for tranquility - the NewEdgewater is the place...whether you are sunbathing by the pool or at the sea. Restaurant food is a bit expensive and the menu is limited, however quality is good. Staff is friendly and courteous. Hotel is located a bit out the way, so you will have to walk a bit to get to public transportation.

unique location great for surfers and nature lovers. the staff is friendly and helpful. the views are million dollar. don't expect the hilton, but this is basically the best value for your money on barbados.

Newedgewater has a stunning location and I believe is the only hotel in the area with a pool, which considering that the sea is too rough and rocky for swimming is a bonus. My room which was the honeymoon suite was incredibly spacious and comfortable and had amazing sea views, however the rest of the hotel and grounds are rather tired and in need of […] some refurbishment. In general it was clean and comfortable and the staff accommodating though I only found out whilst meeting the kitchen staff departing the hotel that the kitchen was being shut down at 6pm due to lack of guests. As there are few restaurants/ shops in Bathsheba and on a Sunday none of them open in the evening you need to plan ahead if you don't want to go hungry! If you're looking for tranquility, stunning views and enjoy surfing you will love Bathsheba it's not somewhere to go for the nightlife. Lastly, I would recommend having a car as the location is a little isolated although I did find the bus service from Bathsheba reliable but only serves Bridgetown and Speightstown. Leer más

Considering the rate I paid, I can't complain... but unless you're a surfer, this hotel is not in a "prime" location. It's clean and fairly well-kept, but there's no denying the fact that the hotel is just ... old. There isn't much by way of TV, if that matters to you; and the phone system was all screwed up so that calls did not get routed to my room. […] I spoke to the front desk about it, and they told me that it was all sorted out, but it never was resolved throughout my stay (which resulted in an enormous cell phone bill for me). if you want a hotel out of the way the new edgewater is for you.being on the atlantic coast the sea can be rough which is why it is good for surfing.being a small island the beaches on the caribbean side are only a 30 minute car ride away.here the beaches have white sand and are calm and crystal clear.the hotel was clean and the staff were friendly […] and helpful. my room was a good size with a balcony right on the sea front.the bed was made up every day and the room cleaned.the pool was good and the water clean. breakfast was included, toast,cereal,fruit etc. or you can choose off the menu.car hire is available at reception and i would recomend this. overall the new edgewater is a good hotel with charachter. the people of barbados are always friendly and helpful, i will definetely be back. almost forgot, i never complained once. This hotel is a 1/2 hour and $35 ride from the airport, and although it sits on the Countryside, it is on a cliff overlooking the ocean. We woke up to a Continental breakfast on the water everyday. If you're brave enough, you should rent a car and travel the entire island! Dieses einfache Hotel liegt direkt an der Ostküste auf einem Cliff. Schon beim Frühstück genießt man den traumhaften Blick auf die beiden wildromantischen Buchten "Cattle Wash" und "Soup Bowl" den Surferspot. Auch vom relativ großen sauberen Pool hat man diesen Blick. Hier kann man in aller Ruhe auf Liegen entspannen, ein Buch lesen, oder einfach nur […] aufs Meer kucken. Zu bestimmten Zeiten, meistens Samstags und 1-2 mal unter der Wochen kommen Touristenbusse vorbei, dann sollte man besser einen ausgiebigen Spazergang am Strand unternehmen. Wenn der Andenkenhändler seinen kleinen Stand am Pool aufbaut ist man aber rechtzeitig vorgewarnt. Der kilometerlange feine Sandstrand und die Steilküste bieten mit der wildromantischen Brandung jenen Tag ein imposantes Schauspiel, besonders auch für Fotografen. Schwimmen sollte man dort nirgends wegen der sehr gefährlichen Strömung und den Steinplattfornen dicht unter Wasser. Für Profisurfer ist Soup Bowl ein Traunspot, hier bricht sich die Welle in langen Tubes langsam von südosten nach nordwesten zum Strand. Wenn man gerne salzhaltige Luft atmen will oder muß, ist man hier am richtigen Platz, das Inhalationsgerät kann man getrost zu hause lassen, die andauernde Gicht sorgt auf natürlichem Weg dafür. Wir haben uns hier sehr erholt, gut gegessen und sind begeistert! Da schaut man gerne über die kleinen Mängel im Bad hinweg. Leer más

Men også et enkelt og ærligt hotel . En dej lig kontrast til "Hiltons and thelike" . Ingen masseturisme eller store hoteller på eller i nærheden af Edgewater. En respektfuld renovering og stedet ville være "close to perfekt", Hvis man altså gerne vil lidt væk og mærke Barbados. Atlanterhavskysten er pragtfuldt..

Nach knapp einstündiger Busfahrt wird man ca. 500m vom Hotel entfernt abgesetzt; das Hotel ist nirgends zu sehen. Nachdem man irgendwen nach dem Weg gefragt hat, läuft man entweder eine sehr steile, enge Straße entlang (sehr mühsam mit Gepäck) oder nimmt als Abkürzung einen kaum begehbaren Feldweg und eine verfallene Treppe (am Abend komplett unbeleuchtet […] und daher lebensgefährlich) zum Hotel. Das Hotel ist insgesamt in Ordnung, wenn auch äußerlich von der Witterung zum Teil deutlich angegriffen mit kleinem, sauberem Pool und schöner Frühstücksterrasse mit exzellentem Meerblick. Ab ca. 19.00 Uhr endet der Restaurantbetrieb; nach 20.00 Uhr ist noch nicht einmal mehr ein Drink an der Bar zu bekommen. Während meines Aufenthalts waren die meisten Fernsehkanäle nicht empfangbar, d. h. für eine Woche gab es noch nicht einmal Nachrichten. Leer más

Dette hostel levede ikke op til vores forventninger. Billederne fra hjemmesiden og beskrivelserne af hotellets service var ikke det vi kom til. Der var ikke aftensmad som beskrevet og det var samtidig svært at finde en restaurant i byen, som ikke var løbet tør for råvarer eller havde lukket. Vi måtte leje en bil hele ugen, da byen ikke bød på særlig […] meget. Enkelte af personalet var ikke servicemindede og var endda direkte ubehøvlede. Leer más

Très bon rapport qualité/prix pour cet hôtel que je recommande très fortement à toute personne recherchant le calme, la sérénité et le dépaysement. J'ai beaucoup hésité à réserver dans cet hôtel après avoir lu des critiques négatives sur le site de hôtels.com, mais même s'il est vrai que l'hôtel gagnerait à être raffraîchi, cela reste un excellent […] site avec une vue imprenable sur l'océan atlantique. J'ai assisté tous les matins, de ma chambre, au lever du soleil et c'est beau. Personnel vraiment sympa. Dommage que personne ne parle français là-bas ! Bref, j'ai été enchantée par mon séjour et je reviendrai certainement dans cet hôtel. Ah, j'oubliai, prévoir baskets pour ceux qui préfereront prendre le bus à louer une voiture. I was looking for a quiet place , and I've been satisfied. the bus to Bridgetown is convenient and cheap. The bus station is not far. It was perfect for me.
