My husband and I get out to Desert Hot Springs about once a month. We have tried the other Hotels or "Resorts" in the area. I have seen the bad reviews for this hotel, Sanctuary. I took a chance, as we have driven by, and noticed that they were doing remodeling. I walked into the lobby, and I was suprised. The floors are beautiful dark wood, it us minimal as far as furnishings but what is in place is VERY nice, and Clean. They are not opening the restaurant, nor the tavern, i belive the hotel is between owners so the current owner is not going that far. I did not get like a map of the property, just a verbal of what our room number was and directions. I actually had to go back in and ask for the room number again, as i was so pleased to tell my hubby that the lobby was nice, and the man behind the counter was super nice, and spoke clear engligh. GREAT! So we parked, walked through, most of the rooms have french doors that open to the pool, which is gated. it was almost dark, but well lit. Our room was tucked away and did not have the French doors. I kind of felt bummed. The room was pained bright yellow, but still not annoyingly bright. the counter was granit and the bed large and soft. the TV was in a cabinet and nice condition. it is not a flat screen but whatever, im not there to watch tv right? There was a balcony with a table and chairs, looking at the back parking lot. the air conditioner is in the wall, and newly installed, but super nice with a remote control for us lazy hot or cold people. :o). I was curious about the other rooms, with the french doors, so my hubby went and inquired about them, the man at the desk gave him 3 keys to see if maybe we wanted to switch. VERY NICE of him. on the first day we have no shampoo and when we ask the answer was "we are not received yet from supplier " ( who cares-i pay for the room ). the shower doesn't working and they fix on the next day . even for this money i am not recommended this hotel. i forget big pool was cold , so you can't swim. you can use only jacuzzi. maybe because we was only one family in the hotel, but anyway i pay the money for relax not to discus about all the problems.

We only spend a night at this hotel - very old room! Breakfast was a muffin and acup of coffee!!!!

Pictures did not tell the whole story, hotel being remodeled, not ready for guests. No ice, breakfast was bad, half eaten rolls and cereal bars.

The cost vs the horrific appearance of the place, was not worth it. I can say our room at least was quiet and the bed comfortable. The TV needed to be replaced, there was a large hole in the shower that was filled with yellow filler and the room was painted a ghastly dark blue. The renovations going on (I wasn't sure what was going on) didn't seem to be doing much for a first impression of driving up and seeing the "caves" look to hotel.

The hotel was just taken over from the bank, and they are renovating. However, the room they gave us had a closet size bathroom with no soap. I can understand no shampoo or conditioner, but there was not soap. The new manager is rude, and does not provide quality customer service.

If a hotel is undergoing construction then it should be clearly labeled that way when folks are choosing hotels to stay in. there were no vending machines, no ice machine and no hair dryer in the room, the phone was not labeled with front desk stickers or the actual hotel number, in order to contact the front desk i had to use my cell phone. there were no emergency exit signs up on the door so i had no idea where the stairs were in case of emergency. the one things i loved about this hotel was the location..it was easy to find and easy to get to and from where the event i was attending was located.

We booked our stay at the Sanctuary because of it's location. We had booked a day spa near by, and wanted to have easy access to our hotel. After reading some reviews, I really didn't expect much. When checking in, there was a lady that was very upset yelling at the hotel manager. Her complaints seemed very petty, but the manager did a good job in appeasing her and did more than he probably needed to in making it up to her. The hotel is older, and has a strange motif, but for the price paid was quite adequate. The pool is nice enough, and they have a large jacuzzi. We even had a nice view from the balcony in the room. I'd stay here again if I needed a place in Desert Hot Springs, but not if I planned on spending the day at the hotel.

The hotel is in the middle of a major renovation removing an outdated sand cave motif. The management was very efficient and friendly and put on a decent breakfast. The room was spotless and comfortable with new decorations and linens. A bonus of a kitchenette with new appliances was unexpected. The hotel has a pool and two spas but other amenities will be awhile in the remake of the hotel. This was an excellent value for the money and I would go there again.
