MacCallum House Inn

The room we had was beautiful. The hot tub outside was such a nice touch. The bathroom in the large suite was huge. The tub was such a treat to bathe in with the jets and bubble bath. When we found the hidden treasure of the indoor sauna - wow! The bed ws huge and comfy, as was the fireplace. The breakfast served was top notch. The bar and restaurant […] served delicious goodies. The only complaint is that the inn was further away from downtown than what we had planned, so we had to drive for dinner. But other then that, our stay was perfect! Leer más

We stayed at the MacCullum House suites room 28. The room was large and felt very comfortable and "homey". The bed was very comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful and the grounds are very peaceful. We extended our stay two extra days we enjoyed it so much. The suites are a couple blocks away from the Inn but still walking distance to main street […] and the ocean. If I return to Mendocino I will definitely stay at MacCullum House! Leer más

Firstly, avoid Room 4. More below. Secondly, the restuarant is excellent and service was very good. It's not cheap, but worth it. Overall, I'd advise anyone to stay elswhere, but eat here at least once. Breakfast is excellent too. Checking in at about 5pm left us with few choices. We were allocated Room 4 but immediately told that it was a very noisy […] room because of the kitchen below. We were even told that the floors shook.....! When asking about alternatives, we were offered an "upgrade" at additional cost. Finally, we accepted a room outside of the main building only to have the door lock seize up and prevent re-entry. Attempts by the staff to open the door were fruitless and it was even stated that, in one case, the wrong key was attached to the key ring. After some grumbling from the reception person and intervention with the manager, we were given an attic "suite". (It seemed that they wanted to charge more, but we refused, it being the hotel's problem....) At the customer service level, this hotel rates very low. Being told at 8pm by the receptionist that she was "working on it" (getting the room opened up to retrieve a purse locked inside) resulted in nothing. Finally, in the morning, it was the chef who opened the door with his master key, the front desk person's master key having failed. Overall, the place has a pretty run down feel about it; good value for the money it is not. One cannot help being suspicious that being allocated Room 4 and then told that it was very noisy and should be avoided was simply a ploy to obtain more money by getting guests to upgrade. Hotel was definately the nicest in town. Stayed in the barn and the room was small but very well done. Not much to do in mendocino so make sure you have a plan for your stay. Food at the hotel was very expensive but the free breakfast and drinks makes up for it!

Front desk people not very responsive and friendly. We did not get into our room till 4:00 pm. Breaffast was great!

The restaurant is excellent. Great location, right in the middle of all activity of the town.

A charming old world hotel located in a spectacular beautifully maintained garden. The hotel itself is aging but still quite comfortable. Our room in the back was near a noisy exhaust fan from the kitchem. Breakfast was excellent service was very good too. you can walk to anywhere in Mendocino. Highly recommended

My husband and I found this inn on Hotels.com and were hoping it would be a better stop than what we had at the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf, San Fran., CA. We were pleasantly surprised. Each room has it's own vintage charm and is only matched by the main house. We sat on the lawn and drank wine purchased from the little town grocery store. Service was great, food was outstanding, we had a great time.

My husband and I are on a special diet and they accomadated us wonderfully. We stayed at Mendocino villiage Inn Room 68(part of the MacCallum House property about two blocks from the main house)and found the room quaint and nice enough for the price, BUT the mattress was horrible, I slept in a crater all night. I had to go up to Nor Cal for a business trip so I decided to try this place out and I am happy that I did. The staff was great and they offered me an upgrade when I arrived. They allowed me to look at two rooms and choose which one I wanted. The room I chose was in their renovated barn on the property, rather then one in the main house, because it […] would be quieter. My room was very cute (sleigh bed, amour), but a bit small, however fine for one person. If there were two people, with luggage, it would have been very cramped. There was some mildew in the tub but other then that the room was fine and included lot’s of amenities one needs to be comfortable (flat panel TV, DVD player, wine glasses, wood burning stove, snacks, bathrobes, etc.). The wireless worked great in the “barn” and I was able to attend a company webcast from my room however there was no desk in the room (it would not have fit anyway and I’m sure that most of their guests are not there on a business trip). When you stay in places like this one needs to remember that even though the property has been renovated, the building(s) are old/historic and it is not a modern hotel/room. However it is a very nice change from the normal “cookie-cutter” hotels and rooms. Their location is also great for checking out all the cute shops nearby and walking around Mendocino. The best thing about this hotel is their restaurant…it is amazing! Even if you do not stay at MacCallum House Inn you should definitely eat there if you are in the area. Dinner was excellent and the breakfast was complimentary if you are a guest. And this breakfast was anything but the average so-so fare that you normally get for a complimentary breakfast. Hotels that are exceptional pay attention to the small details, not just the big ones. Our room was missing light bulbs in the night stand, the TV remote did not work, nor did the bath spa. The outdoor spa cover was totally shot and I was afraid to open it, for fair of it falling apart. The fireplace flames (gas) did not even come up above the logs […] so it was not very aesthetic. Overall the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great, but more in line of restaurant, rather than a B&B. B&B’s tend to be more personal, not like a hotel. This was more like a hotel. We had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before and were very pleased with our experience! Our daughter recommended the MacCallum House to us and was she ever right. The staff were very accommodating and gracious. When it came time to leave we wished we could stay for a couple of days longer. We would definitely stay again!

The hotel is in a great location in the middle of downtown Mendocino and is a historical landmark. It is beautiful from the outside, however, it is an old creaky building inside. Our bed squeeked and there was a loud furnace right outside our room. I don't recommend staying in the main building.

The hotel is absolutely charming with a great location. I was given a complimentary upgrade which was a real plus. The breakfast that was offered was from their regular menu and food was wonderful. I'll stay here again!!

The bed was PLUSH, they had bubbles for the jetted tub, a private balcony, gas fireplace .... The main house had a wonderful stone fireplace with cozy couches to hang out on and enjoy delicious cocktails! The town is small enough that you can walk anywhere ... and walking is a great way to explore the hidden shops and paths.... Oh and the coast was […] beautiful.... We really liked this place. It seemed a little pricey but you get a free breakfast in their restaurant every morning as well as a $7.00 token per person to use in the restaurant or bar each evening. We loved our stay with the McCallum Properties. We stayed in the main house, and were given a free upgrade to a larger room with king bed at the staff's suggestion. The restaurant is excellent, the breakfast (poached eggs on crab-cakes) unsurpassed by any of our many "bed and breakfast" experiences. You will not be disappointed at Mendocino.

We got a room very narrow, not very comfortable. Bed too small with a lavabo just close to the head of one guest. No possibility to have heating when we went back in the night. Finaly we got another room but we were obliged to go to the reception at another block to get it. For the breakfast, they fixed us a breakfast hour and we were just on time. […] We have to wait 20 minutes before to order and another 25 minutes to be served with cold food. We had a wonderful time in Mendocino with many thanks to the MacCallum Inn for their hospitality and room accommodations. Highly recommended for a couple to get away for the weekend. Breakfast is included with a good selection of dishes. We will visit again soon.

This place fits with the funky-ness of Mendocino and IS charming. It is not a typical B&B or inn because MacCallum House's rooms are in four different locations with meals served at one. Be prepared to haul your own bags (no assistance was offered to us) and tackle some stairs. Rooms all seem to be different and well appointed. The room we stayed in […] had an extraordinary number of light switches making finding your way around awkward. All the locations are in town and great for soaking-up Mendocino. The MacCallum house came highly recommended as a quality B&B. The building was very nostalgic and contained alot of local history. 1.The room was billed as a Queen bed, not hardly. this was a double bed. 2.The plumbling was in bad shape, we had to endure brown dirty water in our room, both to drink and bathe. Additionally were charge $4.00 per bottle […] for drinking water even though we could not drink the tap water.. 3. The resteraunt was over priced and the quality of the meal was sub par. Due to father's death we requested a refund...the manager refused even a partial refund though I'd called a month ago knowing we may not make it to inform them of the family member's terminal condition and hospice care. Wonderful place to stay... each room had it's own unique character. The staff was great and very accomodating. They let us choose which room we wanted to stay in and let us look at other rooms for future stays. Breakfast was delicous! Overall, we had such a memorable stay... I highly recommend the McCollum House!

I stayed in the "suites" up the hill which were extremely nice. Transportation would have been appreciated. The breakfast and ambiance was wonderful. Wish the restaurant was open for dinner....off-season....a good reason to return. Had an in-room massage arranged by the hotel which was also very nice. Definately will go back.
