Pensione Hotel Sydney

We're 2 young men from Denmark who stayed our first night in Sydney at the Pensione Hotel after a very long flight. We we're satisfied with the condition of the room and especially the toilet and bath-facilities. Nothing to put a finger on, and we would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Great hotel, location and service of the staff. would definitely stay again.

Location - short walk to Darling Harbour, Paddy's Market & Chinatown; Coles supermarket across the road; about 10-15mins walk to Pitt Street/Westfields shopping area; 45mins walk to the Opera house; short walk from Town Centre metro station. The hotel is ideally located for first-timers who want to be close to everything. The room is immaculate! This we truly appreciated as I am particular about the cleanliness and smell of the restroom. - location is great, central Sydney, Chinatown - we had room 406 which was a great spacious room with a small kitchen in it - at the 3rd night our lock of the room didn't work anymore and we where transferred to a smaller room - we could return to 406 after the lock was repaired - we got a late checkout for free and after asking a free Internet voucher […] (which should we free always (and in every hotel)) - unfortunately the Internet wifi on the 4th floor didn't work, on lower floors it did - good beds - nice shower - great atmosphere, nicely renovated old building - taxi to airport 35 - 40 Australian dollars Leer más

Room very small, no closet space, clean, bathroom is decent size. Located in chinatown area. Not a bad place but certainly not great.

Like a back-packers hotel. Very basic. Our bedroom looked down on a Chinese "restaurant" at which people ate and talked all night long. Wardrobe, but no hangers. Windows sealed shut with secondary glazing. Not sure if this is legal.

we had a comfortable stay,good bed ,got upgraded on arival to a double bed from 2 singles,all polite and welcoming,on ground is a bar to watch sport and a good little chineese food eatery convenient and tasty. short walks to central station and darling harbour.

The hotel was conveniently located and the staff were great. We stayed in the deluxe refurbished rooms which was lovely. However on our last night, there was a cockcroach in our room and in the other room that we occupied.

Fairly convenient location but tiny room. Room contained a bed and bedside table and barely any room to open luggage and still move around. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Strategic location, closeby Chinatown, convenient to walk or take a bus out of the city. Very accessible to food and shops within minutes of walk. Excellent service and cleanliness.

I found the hotel very nice, with a comfortable room for my mother who enjoyed the stay. Good to have lift access for her. A nice communal lounge/kitchen area above a really good Thai takeaway was convenient and atmospheric. Service was polite and prompt, and very friendly all round. WE would be happy to return there on our next Sydney trip.

Its a little cramped, the rooms are tiny but it has been recently refurbished and is ok for the prices they charge.

My mother and I came to Sydney for a couple of nights to see a concert at the Opera House and loved our stay at the Pensione.The room was great and the location was unbeatable!

This is a small hotel w/ reception upstairs. Somewhat hard to find be/c the signs are small. Great location in Chinatown but surrounding area is a little seedy. But it's right on the bus line, just a few blocks from Darling Harbour, a McDonalds in around the corner for free wi-fi, and Paddys Market is just down the street. reasonable price, very convient location and a clean environment.

The room was an upgrade and was very small.The service was wonderful. The shower in the small bathroom had a half glass wall and the water splashed onto the floor. The heater did not work well to keep the room as warm as we would have liked.

I was nervous staying somewhere that no one had recommended to me. I was just going by the positive reviews. However, I am here to say definitely dont hold back in staying there. This very cute, centrally located (in downtown) boutique hotel is a fantastic opportunity to not spend a fortune and still get a very nice room - if you get a renovated one. Upon checking in we were told that we received a complimentary upgrade - so I was excited - until I got to the room. It was a very, very small room with an even smaller bathroom. […] The room was very dark (inner courtyard) and the overhead lighting was poor at best. The carpet was very old looking and overall the room was depressing. I didn't think that we were going to be able to manage a whole week in these conditions, but since we booked (and pre-payed) with Hotels.com there wasn't much that I could do about it. The short story is that the hotel would have to "let us get out of the contract" with hotels.com with a written letter or email and that wasn't a road that I really wanted to venture down. So instead, we suffered through one night and then spoke to the manager on duty the next morning seeking to move to a more suitable room. The manager (even though she was working alone) took a few minutes to show us another room - which was very beautiful and newly renovated - a much better option. We spent the next 5 nights feeling very comfortable in our new room with every detail taken care of. The staff is amazingly accommodating and pleasant - they even learned our first names after a day or so. Very personable touch. The place is very quiet, there's a guest lounge with a kitchen and refrigerator and there's access to internet - which is a little expensive and kinda slow - but there's a ton of internet cafes right around the corner - so no big deal. The neighborhood is a little busy but within walking distance to Central Station, there is a bus stop right out front on George (free bus, too) and it's right around the corner from The Patty Markets where you can get all your Australia souvenirs for about 80% less than all the "souvenir shops" around town. My daughter and I spent two nights in this hotel in Sydney. The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed. Our room was small, but clean and the shower had plenty of hot water. The hotel was nicely decorated and was a great value for a city hotel. Staying on George Street was a perfect spot to start our sightseeing adventures. We were very pleased with the Pensione. Our flight got in at 9:30 AM that morning and they let us check in early, even upgrading us for free when our room wasn't ready. Everything was clean and comfortable, *especially* for the price - the best we found in town. This took a while to get used to the layout, which is spread between (at least) two buildings, with multiple elevators going different places, and need to leave the hotel to go from one room to another. However, it all made sense, and the staff was gracious in providing assistance. enjoyed our stay, had a little trouble with the lift keys

As I stated in a previous hotel review for the same business trip that took me to both Sydney and Melbourne over 8 days, I'm a seasoned business traveler, and I'm only looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay. I'm not looking for extravagance. While the Pensione in Sydney was Fantastic, the hotel in Melbourne was the worst hotel experience I've […] ever had. Thankfully, after spending the first three days in Sydney at the Pensione, three horrible days in Melbourne, I was happy to come back to one last day in Sydney at the Pensione before flying out the next morning. Now keep in mind, this is not a fancy hotel by any means. But the staff could not have been nicer, more accommodating, or more helpful. The rooms are very basic. Large clean beds, large bathrooms, even in the smallest rooms, but a fridge and freezer plus coffee maker in the room, as well as cable TV. Both rooms were well ventilated but also had great AC & Heating systems. But again, I choose two basic rooms, which at half the cost that I spent on the Melbourne hotel that was rated 4 starts, this hotel was luxury compared to the hotel I stayed in in Melbourne. This hotel is right on the main strip on George Street. And it's the third stop off the train from the Airport (Central Station). That's a total of 9 minutes on the train from the airport, then just a two minute walk from the station about 4 blocks. I'll be honest, the numbering on the buildings made a bit trying at first to find it. Plus it's in a very classic old building that you don't expect a hotel to be in. The signage could be a bit bigger. They should just advertise its next to the Charlie Chan's bar, what appears to be a famous bar in town. You are right across from a huge shopping center, and just a very inexpensive bus or train ride away from the Sydney Harbor, The Opera House and Botanical Gardens. We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and found it very central with the free bus stop just outside the hotel. The staff on reception were more than happy to offer advice with what tours to do. Our room was very modern and clean with large shower. Would stay here again and have no problem recommending this fab hotel.

Pensione is a a terrible hole in the wall hotel. If you like yourself, your money, and want to have a nice time, DO NOT SAY AT PENSIONE! You'll be lucky if the toilet works properly and if your bed is made, not to talk about cleanliness and cocroach free room. The service people are rude. We didn't get the room we orderd, and then the bed wasn't made, […] so we called the front desk, and the lady came upstairsw and bitched about making the bed whiole she was pregnant. Then we went away for one night and came back, and again we asked for a room iwth two twin beds, and got only one bed, and had to switch. At night the fire alarm went off and then for the next 2 hours the manager said on the loud speakrws that it was a false alarm. Can't get any worse, even that George hotel accross the street with shared bathrooms is better. I didn't believe all the bad comments about this ploace, I thought the rooms were only small, but that was the least of the problems. When we checked out the manager gave us a long speech about how rude we wer to the staff, eventhough we told him we were in a hurry to catch a plane. Leer más

The rooms are so small, my friend stayed at room 113 and even did not have a closet. He had to hang his clothing on the wall. I stayed on the 2nd floor, it is a little better than the first level. Anyway, I can only give 1 star or no star.

Better than expected service at check-in as my wife and I had arrived at about 8.45 am after 23 hours flying from the UK and they got a room ready for us by 9.30 am! Excellent service and much appreciated as we were, naturally, extremely tired. The hotel is ideally located in Sydney city centre and close to all the major attractions. Our stay was made all the better by the excellent staff in the Hotel. The only negative was the actually size of the rooms which were a little on the small size. Again we would highly recommend a stay in this Hotel.

I was surprised at the location. It met all my needs. I did find it difficult to locate (do we always check the No of the buulding) it sort of laid back from the front of the buildings adjoining ( you had to climb a couple of stairs from street level, and there was the elevator). The policy is that you gat the room from 14.00hrs. I had previous to my […] arrival in Sydney, travelled from Perth W.A. by train ( 3days journey) but upon my arival at the Hotel about noon, I was permitted to enter my room. This was a reason enough for me to recommend the hotel to a friend. A strange quirk was the fire alarm going off at about 2.40am. This was alarming to say the least, but the Hotel receptionist kept us well informed. Leer más

Hotel was very hard to find. The person at the front desk said we were "upgraded" - however the room was tiny!! when we had put our suitcases down on the ground there was barely enough room to walk around the bed (which was only a double bed mind you) I would hate to think what the size of the room would have been if we weren't "upgraded" ?? Hotel is centrally located given I travelled on public transport. Room was clean and comfortable, tourist brochures available & helpful staff sharing local knowledge. Would gladly return and recommend a stay.

This place was a glorified hostel. Pay the extra and go somewhere else...

Rooms were superb but they do not provide fresh new ammenities on a daily basis. I booked the room for 3days 2nights and made myself a nice cup of coffee on the 1st night, the coffee & milk were not refreshed the next morning. Similar for the bath soaps. We stayed at the Family Suite along Sussex St, the walkways are pretty small but it's ok to draw […] the bags through but slightly inconvenient as they have stairs thru the way and not ramps! Else, everything was superb .. especially the location, Chinatown was a 3-minute walk away, Paddy's Market is exactly opposite Chinatown .. you wont miss it. The Free CBD Shuttle is just 2 doors away from the George St exit. Woolworths and Coles are about 5-8 minute walk down the road from George St and dont worry bout food, there's Charlie Chan's downstairs if you need a drink and a small Thai restaurant which is run by some young Thai owners and serves exquisite Thai at reasonable pricing! We managed to get a great deal from Hotels.com but ended up paying it back when we wanted extention of stay in the rooms. Check out times are 10:00am daily and if you wish to extend it's AUD15 per hour up till 12:00pm. Else, you can use the lounge on the 1st floor which has all required - toilet, sofa, microwave, wash basin, refrigarator. If you need a place to keep your luggage, they have lockers that runs at a minimum charge of AUD5 for min3 hours. Leer más

The hotel is overall very good for the price. It is located just a few minutes stroll from central station which was very handy and they have recently refurbished some of the hotel to a very good standard. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The bathroom in my room was obviously new, it was of the same standard as a 4 star hotel, nice wet […] room style with all round mosaic tiles and very clean. The room itself was not to the same standard, it was an odd shape with the TV hung from a high sealing and there were three massive stains on the carpet, each about a foot wide and there were some small stains on the sheets. However apart from that it was good, the bed was comfy and the room clean and secure. I would defo say pack the ear plugs as it is noisy but you are in low cost accommodation in central Sydney so if you expect silence then you are in the wrong place or need to spend more money, it is much quieter then a a hostel and the noise dies down after mid night. I would stay there again and advise others to do so, the communal areas a very nice and at the end of the day if you're in central Sydney you're not there to spend time in the hotel, it's good location and great price will let you enjoy the city and you have a comfortable and secure place to stay. Suurena miinuksena kuitenkin viereinen yökerho, josta musiikin jumputus kuului aamu 5 asti todella kovaa (äänieristys lähes olematon!!).
