The most important thing for me when staying in a hotel is a comfortable bed...... In this hotel the beds are very very hard, they very kindly upgraded us to a suite, but the bed was so hard we asked to be moved to a room with a softer bed. our next bed was just a tad softer than sleeping on a table. Overall the hotel was OK I wouldnt recommend staying […] here if its comfort you are looking for Leer más
"Quiet Hotel"
If you are looking for quiet place in south spain, it's your best choice. Warm and charmin old forniture hotel (c. XVIII) with a great yard and quiet, in a very good location in heart of Puerto de Santa María.
"Lovely old world charm but a bit shy of 5 star"
We took the in-laws for a delightful stay at the Hotel Duques de Medinaceli but the hotel let itself down by not providing the little extras expected of a 5 star, such as a full room service menu, pay movies, turndown service, bathrobes, etc. The buffet breakfast was good with some hot items on offer but lacked immagination. That being said, with the […] free parking this getaway spot was excellent value for money. The hotel decor is an authentic 19th century manor house with lovely gardens, pool, furnishing and art done to perfection. The multi-lingual staff was very helpful with booking entertainment and sorting the trains to Jerez and ferries to Cadiz. On the other hand our queen bed was extremely hard while the in-laws' was quite comfy and the showers in both rooms sprayed over the top and flooded the bathroom floors for some comic relief. Overall a mixed but positive experience. We stayed at the end of the season and found El Puerto to be a sleepy town ideally located between Jerez and Cadiz. The restaurants were more miss than hit, even the ones recommended by the guidebooks, but we found an excellent restaurant near the ferry landing by asking a local taxi driver. Leer más
"A little piece of history"
The hotel building was magificent and our suite was very well appointed and comfortable. Good bed and plenty of space. The location was excellent for visiting the area and allowed us to make use of both train and boat and leave the car (for free) at the hotel. The restaurant however was average and on the one occasion we ate there we were bothered by […] the midges which were in abundance.Reception satf couldn't have been more helpful but there was one seemingly everpresent lady in the dining room/bar who was anything but helpful. We probably wouldn't go back but that is more to do with a sense that we have visited the area and there are other places to explore. "Classical Spanish Hotel"
Myself and wife got married in Gibraltar in the morning and then made our way to El Puerto de Santa Maria, just outside Jerez to stay in the Beautiful Hotel Duques De Medinaceli. It was like staying in a museum with huge decorative paintings and mirrors, couryards, fountains, gardens and so on. I really can't say enough about the hotel, I'll definetly […] be going back. Service was so good it was scary, I remember putting the phone down after requesting something and there was an almost instantaneous knock on the door, (it reminded me of the butler character out of Mr. Deeds - sneaky sneaky!). Definetly worth going out of your way to stay in this hotel if even only for one night. It was very romantic for me and my new wife. Leer más
"Duques de Medinaceli was gorgeous....."
These three nights in the Duques de Medinaceli was the best I ever experienced in a hotel before. Staff is super friendly and very helpful. Kitchen - especially desserts - is outstanding. Only the breakfast buffet did not quite come up to the usual standard of the hotel. Rooms were incredible, a parlour and big sleeping room and a bathroom with a constant […] fresh herbal smell. Breakfast room displays old paintings, gives view to a nice garden. All in all I would have felt like an 18th century duchess if I had not found my jeans in my luggage;-))) Takes you 15 min. by car to go to the center of Jerez, Atlantic Ocean is near, Bodega Terry right beside the hotel. Can I recommend the hotel?? No, better stay away and leave it for me and my family. Leer más
