If you are a 5-star person this is not the place for you. However, if you want to be close to site-seeing destinations, and like to travel within a budget, this place is GREAT. Good size room with private bathroom, fridge with lock for valuables, TV and plenty of closet/ shelf space. Four minute walk to the Metro.....Close to a good coffee shop, good […] places to eat, money exchange, etc. You will have to haul your luggage up one set of stairs to get to the elevator. There was also some noise from others outside, but our window was open towards the courtyard. The staff were helpful with suggestions, getting cab, etc. I would recommend this place to anyone who doesn't need fancy luxury. Leer más

In the evenıng you fınd a lot of good restaurants and dont need a taxi.Also from Vacı ucta you fınd busses to the fısher basteı.

Excelent choice if you want be be in the middle of everything.

The rooms are very comfortable, clean and quiet and the bonus is the location. You dont have to be rich to afford all of those.

The hotel is a couple blocks from the metro line to the train station and adjacent to the Elizabeth Bridge on the Pest side. It's on the edge of the gentrified area of Budapest. This is one of those hotels that thrives because of tour packages and tourist that doesn't have any options once they purchase one. Upon our arrival (which was quite late due to our delayed flt), the front desk didn't have our reservation and proceeded to tell us that they didn't have any room. He was not interested in talking to us, much less helping […] us. Thankfully enough, I had our confirmation number. He then told us to wait while he investigate. Once he found our reservation, he then quickly told us that the price does not include breakfast (thank goodness cause I wouldn't want to eat it). The lobby was in disrepair, the shower was so small that I burned myself bumping into where the hot water was connected to the shower handle. If you don't have a four star hotel, then you should at least give a four star service. This hotel gave neither. On the good note, it was convenient. Leer más

Location excellent, very close to all the must-see sights. Our hotel room was facing to the bridge and river. Really beautiful and enjoyable !

It's a very old hotel, definitely need renovation. Poor maintenance. Poor internet connection

A hotel in a heritage building, hotel building itself is amazing. It's very near to river from where you can walk down and see all major attraction. A must stay.

Perfect location and short walking distance to many of the main sights. Tram and Metro close by too for further distances to travel. Had 2 stays at the hotel (at different times over a 10 day period) and while the first stay was very good i.e. good comfortable room, the second stay (though provided at a fairly good rate) was not as nice or as comfortable. […] Some maintanince was needed in both rooms, most notably the windows and showers. Overall a good place for a short 1 or 2 nights but would not wish to have a long stay unless faults are fixed! Leer más

Hotel is old and the rooms look and feel like a college dorm room (and not a particularly nice one). The staff wasn't much help either, but that may have just been a language barrier. However with that said, I would recommend this hotel because of price and location - steps from the Danube.

The old hotel was surprisingly well maintained and modern inside. The staff was always considerate and very helpful. Traffic noise was a problem on a hot summer night, but we chose the location for convenience, so no complaints. All in all, a very decent place to stay.

My friend and I enjoyed staying at the Matyas Hotel and being near the Elizabeth bridge made it central to many highlights as well as on the door step of Vaci utca being the liveliest shopping street. I can strongly reccomend this Hotel.

The hotel is close to the metro station, a bakery, and a supermarket (maybe around 100 m?). Very convenient. Short walk from the Great Market Hall, and not far from tourist sites. The staff at this hotel was very helpful and a pleasure to speak with. Unfortunately the rooms were not the best, the biggest complaint was the mold in the bathroom, as I am allergic to mold. The staff are friendly. The location is superb. If driving, you need a GPS to get to it as the location is tricky. We had a room facing the inside-court, which was fine except that the window would only open a few inches. This meant the room was pretty warm in the afternoons.

Location is great. Right in pest with a view of the river and the sights of Buda. Right across the street from a metro stop of the blue line that takes you every where in Budapest. Breakfast is expensive so just go to the market down the street called Match and buy food there for cheap. Hotel has an internet terminal for people to use who don't have […] their own computer. One thing I disliked is that the room is quite big but the bathroom is terribly small. The shower area is too small for an adult of average size. Beware of crooks right outside the hotel posing as tourists walking around with maps in their hand. 2 teenage girls were walking behind me posing as tourists and one of them tried to unzip my bag pack and stuck her hand in there. I was more than satisfied with my stay at the Matyas hotel. The location is perfect. The room was clean and spacious. I found it very charming that the rooms are accessed through galleries of an internal courtyard of an old building. Although the room didn't have a nice view because it was facing the yard, it was much quieter than the ones facing the […] street. Which in the end isn't that important, because if you're in Budapest the last thing you'll want to do is sit in your room. I just wish that there was Wi-Fi in the rooms too and not only in the reception area. The staff though was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Leer más

The Matyas Hotel was a pleasant hotel that we would return to if in Budapest again. The receptionists went out of their way to be helpful, the room was very comfortable, and the hotel was in an excellent location (near the pedestrian mall, very close to the old city of Buda across the Danube). The exterior of the building itself is a work of art. The […] elevator was somewhat small but much larger than what we have found in Paris and other parts of Europe. The only negative points were that the initial entrance into the building needs to be restored to reflect the original beauty and needs better lighting, and the shower needed slight attention--one door was shaky and there was a little mildew. Over-all this is a pretty great location for the price. I stayed for 5 days and while I didn't have any major issues with the service other than the people who service the rooms seem to think that two people in one room only need 1/2 a roll of toilet paper for a day an a half. No, please leave a spare roll especially when the one on the rack isn't a […] full roll. Anyway, all the previous reviews are correct. Yes it's kind of hidden, yes the halls are dark because of the energy saving lights that turn off, yes the place appears to be run down condos with the hotel on one or two floors. However, it's cheap, it's in an excellent location central to the touristy areas and it's 1/2 a block from a metro stop. The room was pretty clean and it had a cheap fridge. The air conditioning doesn't work well but luckily it was cool enough to just open the windows. Over-all if you're looking for a cheap place to stay in the center of things and just want a place to crash this place is great. The only other issue I had was that at the time the site mentioned free breakfast and they said it wasn't included and wanted to charge me approximately 7 Euros daily each for me and my partner to have breakfast, which is way over priced. So we just ended up eating breakfast out at the local bakeries for much less than that. Leer más

I would very much recommend this hotel. The inside of the building gives a real sense of the period in which it was built, albeit the communal staircase could do with some decorating. The room was surprisingly spacious with high ceilings, very clean and an all round comfortable space. Being spread around in different building spaces, the hotel layout could be confusing at first to some people, but this same attribute would make it unusual and interesting for others. The breakfast room feels like a banquet room in the depths of a castle - very well furnished and decorated to that end. Excellent location and friendly staff, that's about it for the positives. The room was quite small and cramped, no AC so was uncomfortably hot all day. Extremely noisy due to all the banging doors made it hard to sleep. The breakfast was poor, not much choice if you didn't eat meat, also no toast!

Don't let you first view of the seedy entry prevent you from staying here. The staff is helpful and courteous, the room is certainly adequate, and the breakfast buffet is fine. Another possible turn-off is the dinky elevator (for two only). Best thing about the hotel is it's location. Three stars is pushing it a bit, but all in all, not bad.

This hotel was recommended by a friend who loves the shopping convenience. I agree that the location is great, but we arrived and found maybe 20 stairs to the lobby, then more stairs to get to the room. They don't provide assistance, yet have a 2 person elevator. You must then go through a couple more doors and down a hallway to the rooms. At night, […] the lighting is terrible and the entry was poorly or not lighted (automatic lighting sometimes works). The entrance to the hotel had us somewhat skeptical...but we ended up really appreciating our location and the helpful desk clerks. Our room was clean and comfortable and the location couldn't be better. The breakfast in the morning was fabulous!

enkelt og greit hotell, ypperlig beliggenhet rett mellom handlegate og Donau, frokosten serveres i en fantastisk kjellerrestaurant, hyggelig betjening. Hotellet er innvendig et kråkeslott av kriker, trapper og ned og kroker, så det egner seg dårlig til funksjonshemmede. Men anbefales absolutt. Mye for pengene

An sich ein schönes Hotel, wenn man erst mal im Innern ist! Oberflächlig ist es im Bad recht sauber gewesen, leider war die Dusche ziemlich vom Kalk befallen und defekt! Etwas Schimmel war auch zu erkennen! Was negativ zu bewerten ist, dass einem beim Frühstück ständig auf die Teller geschaut wird! Helt greit og rimelig hotell. Ypperlig beliggenhet - nesten midt i gågata med kort avstand til massevis av spisesteder. Hotellet er forøvrig ikke å anbefale for handikappede eller om man er litt dårlig til beins. Det er ingen heis, og allerede ved inngangen blir du møtt av et par trapper. I stayed at Hotel Matyas for four nights. The room was spacious and equipped with a seating area, mini-bar, comfortable beds. The staff was friendly, the breakfast buffet ok (Tea, coffee, various kinds of breads and cheeses, meats, yoghurt, fruits, scrampled eggs etc.). The restaurant is not run by the hotel and if you have not ordered breakfast in […] advanced, you have to pay for breakfast tickets at the reception before going to the restaurant. The hotel is located on the Pest side of Danube, just next to the Elisabeth bridge, close to the shopping streets and several nice restaurants. Vi boede på 5 sal over gården i små værelser, men der var hvad der skulle være + nattero. Gammelt slidt hotel, der ligger tæt på det dejlige marked og metro og sporvogn, lige op til Elisabethbroen.

We arrived around 2pm and found the reception through some big doors, up a stair and into a room. Polite staff which gave us our key and some basic information. Room was located through some doors, stairs, through the back alley, in some doors and stairs, so this is definitely NOT for handicapped or those limited in walking. Although I believe they […] have rooms with easier access. The whole hotel had a very urban and basic feel to it, but I liked it. The room was clean, felt spacy and we had a nice view out on the bridge and on the castle area in the distance. Wasn't much more to it, really. Served us well. Wifi sucked and the signals didnt even reach our room though. However why sit in your hotel on a laptop? Bring your laptop to one of the many bars, coffee shops etc with WiFi :-) Travelled with a mate which I shared the room with and we got each our key card, very convenient. Location was also prima. It is located at the Pest end of a nice big white bridge which I cant recall the name of.. Erzebet or something. It was right in the middle of the main avenue, Veci street or something. Also right by a big street which led right to the Keleti train station where the eurocity trains depart. I liked the hotel for its simplicity. Hotellista on lyhyt matka kaikkialle. Hinta-laatusuhde oli tosi hyvä. Käytävät ovat toki kolkkoja ja pitkiä ja portaita ja ovia riitti, mutta huone oli siisti ja suihku ja kaikki muukin olennainen toimi hyvin. Aamupalaa ei kokeiltu, koska lähistöllä oli mukavia kahviloita. Erinomainen hotelli niille, jotka eivät hae luksusta, vaan mieluummin erinomaista […] sijaintia ja riittävän hyvää huonetta. Jos haluaa säästää, kannattaa ostaa jo lentoasemalta kakkoskerroksen postitoimistosta esim. viikkolippu kaupunginliikenteeseen. Bussi 200E vie sinisen metron päättärille ja sillä pääsee suoraan Ferencik Tere -asemalle, joka on lähellä hotellia. Med det här priset Hotellet är en ut av de bästa man kan önska sig med tanke på kavalitet, renlighet coh sist men inte minst hotellet läge i centrum. Jag kommer att definitivt åka tillbaka och på samma hotell förstås. Simply the best!

石造りの古い立派な建物。キーロック式の鉄格子を開け、何だこれは？と思うような古いエレベータで部屋にいく。ただ、部屋は清潔で、居心地はよく、ほっとする。 ドナウ川のほとりに有り、観光には便利。夜のスタッフは英語が十分通じず、難儀．（朝のスタッフは大丈夫）併設のレストランは味も雰囲気もグッドで、食事をしながら音楽演奏も楽しめ、宿泊者には割り引きもあり、ラッキー。

prima Lage, nettes Personal und funktionale Zimmer, also alles ganz prima. Zu Fuß in drei Minuten am Gellert Bad und in der Markthalle, einfach prima.

Vi hamnade längst ner in mot gården först. Man slapp trafikljud, men det var mörkt och för varmt. Vi uppgraderade till ett rum med utsikt. Det var jättefint med vy över Donau och slottet. Frukosten var helt ok, bra buffé. Hotellet ligger nära de centrala delarna av stan. Personalen var serviceinriktad.

Vi var supernöjda med vår vistelse på Matyas. Trevlig, hjälpsamma personal. Fantastisk restaurang, bra frukostbuffé, sköna sängar och ett oslagbart läge.

A bad hotel. Very old, poor maintenance, furniture is old, no internet/wifi in the room, the lift is really small for 2 people only. Poor breadfast. Good location and clean enough.

Helt ok hotell med ett mycket bra läge

A real good choice at an affordable price. Just next to the downtown and a beautiful sight on the Buda Castle. The entrance of the hotel is not very nice but the rooms inside are excellent. The staff is very friendly as well.
