Apex International Hotel

Estuve 3 dias en Mayo 2011. Muy buena relación calidad precio y servicio. Situado a 10 minutos de High Street y del Castillo. Es un edificio moderno funcional, en pleno casco histórico. Frente al hotel hay pubs, bares, cafeterias y sitios de comida rápida. Tiene piscina. La verdad, volveriamos.

Very good hotel with great views if you're on the right side of the building. The restaurant also has a wonderful view. Free wifi is always-a plus in these days where it's often charged for by hotels. A few "round the edges" details for the hotel handyman but all was very good. Elemis products are a nice touch.

Great location,room with a castle view,lovely bathroom and products, service and food very good.

The location is not bad, however it is down a fairly steep hill or 4-5 flights of stairs to get to the Royal Mile, so if you have any trouble walking and want to be closer to the attractions, stay on the New Town side or on the Royal Mile. The immediate square of the hotel is really charming, with great pubs and restaurants, and is close to a lot of […] different neighborhoods so easy to get around. However, I am really disappointed in the hotel staff and the service provided before and during our stay. We arrived Christmas Day, so I had emailed the hotel prior to our trip to ask about getting to the hotel, what would be open, etc, and the response I got back (everything would be open, buses would be running) was 100% incorrect. The front desk staff was also extremely unhelpful, they had no idea what was or wasn't open whether it was attractions or restaurants. The room service food also left a lot to be desired, so eat out. Also there isn't a lot of sound buffering so you hear everything going on in the rooms next to you and out in the halls. All that said, the room was clean and the bed comfortable, but I wouldn't stay there again. Leer más

Great location and friendly, helpful service. Only problem was main restaurant closed for a month the day after I checked in. Cafe downstairs was ok but not a "dining" experience type place. Never figured out how to adjust the heat in my room was the only real negative. Would still go back.

Great location close to the Royal Mile etc, friendly and helpful staff. Very family friendly (except the stairs at entrance to hotel not very pushchair friendly, but there is a ramp at the side of the building). Nice room (would have scored 5 if the room had a fridge and temperature control). Delicious food and great view of the castle at the Heights […] restaurant, plus kids eat free. Hotel is in a great location,surrounded by restaurants & interesting shops.Our twin double bed room was of a very high standard (although marks on the ceiling could have been painted over) & very comfortable.The room was at the back of the hotel away from any street noise.Or so we thought.Smokers from the xmas parties running throughout the weekend […] could be heard upto the early hours,along with the party music leaking from the constantly opening door.We also had the guest in the next room continuing the party there.Thankfully the receptionist dealt with this very quickly. Apex International is in the ideal location for exploring Edinburgh as is it so close to the Royal Mile and within easy access of Princes Street. We were lucky to get a room looking out over Edinburgh castle which was quite something at night. The room was spacious and cleaning was of a high standard. Housekeeping came round to check that we were satisfied […] which was a nice touch. I found the bed to be very soft which did not suit my particular needs. Eating at the hotel restaurant is an expensive option. There are plenty of other options available locally but if you want to dine in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle then the Heights Restaurant is unique. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly and made a point of speaking with you everytime you entered the hotel. The hotel was very busy but they never lost the "personal touch". We had an amazing stay at the apex hotel in edinburgh, the staff were very friendly. The room was really clean and the bed and pillows very confortable. We paid extra for the most wonderful cooked breakfast over looking Edinburgh castle, it was worth every penny, will be coming back to this hotel in the near future

I booked this hotel for my boyfriend's birthday as I'd been there before with work. Unfortunately it seems the good service we received when my company was spending a considerable amount on a conference didn't apply when it was just us visiting for a long weekend. It took over half an hour to check us in because despite arriving past the check-in time […] there were no rooms ready. The room we ended up in had no air-con and a faulty fridge which was overheating meaning that it was like being in a sauna. We'd also been told that breakfast was included (was detailed as B&B rate when we booked and were told at check-in) and was even written on our key card. However half way through our breakfast on the first morning (literally mid-mouthful!) the waiter came over and said that we 'shouldn't be eating', that we hadn't paid for it. He was very rude and we'd given him our room number on entering so if he had any doubts over whether it was included he should have found out before showing us to a table or at the very least let us finish our breakfast before having a go at us. We spoke to the duty manager who at first suggested that WE had written breakfast included on our key card. Suggesting your guests are trying to be dishonest is never a good way to get repeat business! Eventually she agreed we wouldn't be charged for breakfast and assigned us a new room that afternoon. Would have gone away happy if it wasn't for the fact that when we came back that afternoon another member of staff said they'd assumed it was a mistake having a second room in our name and cancelled the booking. Having already packed up our stuff and left the first room we had no choice but to sit in reception for 35 minutes while they tried to find another room. The hotel is in a great location but that's the only positive I found unfortunately. Usually stay in another hotel when we go to Edinburgh but wanted to book somewhere nicer as a treat. We have stayed at this hotel several times and love it. We love the Grassmarket area, it has great views of the castle, within walking distance of Princes Street, great wee cafe for breakfast just a few doors down from the hotel and great pubs across the road for food and alcohol. The only thing is the bar area could be doing with getting new furniture as it is starting to look a little shabby and dated. This was our second stay at this hotel and would stay again due to the location which is second to none for good pubs, restaurants and proximity to the Royal Mile. Sorry, I am so late submitting this review. Preferred this Apex to the other Apex on the Grassmarket, where we stayed 2 years ago. Rooms nicer. Breakfasts very good and staff in breakfast room couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. (that applied to both hotels). Only quibble this time, there was a linen room next to our room, which had the most decrepid […] door. It did not give a very good first impression. Only quibble with Edinburgh itself is that I think that hotel prices in general are quite expensive in comparison to other cities.. Leer más

Would have given this hotel 5 stars, but the bed was just really bad. It was lumpy and sunk down on one side like someone really heavy had slept there for a long time. If you slept on the side that wasn't sunken you had a hard time not rolling down into it. After a long flight however, it really didn't matter. On the plus side, this hotel was brilliantly located, comfy beds & pillows, very clean, great food in the Heights restaurant, good sized room and friendly staff. The pool was also a bonus and although small, we had the sole use of it on Sunday evening. On the negative side; the check in was very chaotic as it was half term week and lots of families […] milling around and as such was delayed access to the room. It was also very noisy on the Saturday night and the room was very stuffy which made sleeping somewhat difficult. The car park is also very small and so you need to arrive early to ensure a space. Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return there on our next visit to Edinburgh. Me, my partner and 2 year old daughter enjoyed our time at the hotel immensely. The facilities were great and the location perfect. The hotel is on the Grassmarket which we discovered to be an attractive and historic road with bistros and bars and very short walking distance to other main attractions such as the castle (visible from the hotel) and the […] Royal Mile for example. The hotel room was just a standard double yet had more than sufficient floor space for the cot (provided free of charge) and plenty of wardrobe space. The only shortcoming was no mini fridge which would have been useful for our toddlers milk and yoghurts etc. The room & ensuite bathroom (bath & large shower) was comfortable, clean and contemporary. Having a small child with us it was often more convenient to dine at the hotel in the evening. Choice of food and prices were conducive to this, and we enjoyed the option of casual dining in the bar area where high chairs were also avalable on request. The hotel pool was also a great hit with our daughter, although space in the pool and in the pools changing rooms were a bit challenged given we were there during a school vacation period. If stars were given for location the Apex would get five as it is located only two sets of street steps from the front entrance of Edinburgh Castle. The hotel itself would benefit from some updating in terms of the common areas etc, but otherwise was very clean and the staff were helpful and professional.

Wake up to a view of the castle just outside my window? Sure there was noise at night as the party scene surrounds this hotel but if you can put up with the noise this hotel is at a great location. The prime spots are easily within walking distance to castle palace and mile. Shops are quaint and the little Italian restaurant offered late night snacks. […] The staff are polite and helpful as I found all Scots to be. location is excellent, but this is a Hotel catering to tourist groups! Ailes looked dingy, difficult to take your luggage to your room need to walk up stairs to the reception and then another set of stairs to the elevators. If you have more than one bag you's be making as many trips just to get your bag to the room. Rooms are extremely small. The hotel location is a bit tricky and not easy to find it. The breakfast is not good, it smell bad and the cups and plats are dirty. It is not 4 star hotel at all.

THIS HOTEL WAS A VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT -- IT REALLY RUINED OUR STAY IN EDINBURGH. WE HAD ASKED HOTELS.COM FOR A HOTEL WITH AIR CONDITIONING AND APEX DID NOT HAVE ANY ROOMS WITH AIR CONDITIONING. OUR ROOM WAS VERY NOISY TO THE POINT THAT WE COULD NOT SLEEP AT NIGHT AND THE SINK KEPT CLOGGING; WE HAD A FLOOD IN THE BATHROOM. THE FRONT DESK WOULD NOT […] ALLOW US TO CHECK IN UNTIL TWO HOURS AFTER THE INDICATED CHECK-IN TIME. ACCORDING TO HOTELS.COM, APEX REFUSED TO GIVE US ANY MONETARY ALLOWANCE FOR ALL THE TROUBLE WE HAD. HOW CAN A FOUR STAR HOTEL BE SO PROBLEMATIC AND UNRESPONSIVE?! Perfect location for great choice of restaurants, bars and boutique shops. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and although it was a busy weekend our room was ready to check into early. The beds are super comfortable and when we requested that they change the feather pillows and dovet (due to an allergy) it was done with in minutes. Very good hotel in a very convenient location. Check-in and check-out were quick. Room was very large. Did not have much of a view, but that did not bother me at all. I dined at the heights restaurant with a great view onto the castle. Excellent service. The swimming pool was pretty cool too. One could see the castle and the people on the street. The […] pool is not huge, so it might be a good idea to go for a swim when everyone else is out and about. I am not sure I would pay premium prices for the rooms looking out onto the castle because they also will have increased noise level from the bars around, especially on weekends. We loved the Apex. It was a very classy hotel with lots of weddings while we stayed there and fun to see all the folks wearing kilts in the hotel. Its right on the main square, and we had a supberb view of Edinbrough Castle from our room. I honestly didn't have one complaint.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this hotel. But this time we were kept waiting for over an hour before we could get into our room. Gorgeous hotel in awesome location! Right below the Edinburgh castle and on square filled with restaurants and pubs. Unfortunately, the room was hot and only comfortable with window open (allowing noise of square below in) or using the fan found in closet (thank goodness!)

This was a great hotel with a great location. the continental breakfast was very good for 10 pounds. Internet connection was free which is a nice surprise with so many high end hotels charging you extra for Internet. I think that is highway robbery. The only reason I didn't give this hotel 5 stars is the wireless internet signal in my room was weak […] and sometimes dropped out and the room needed to be a slight bit larger. There really wasn't enough room to have two fairly large suit cases in the room with us. Room for 2 suit case stands would have made a huge difference. Leer más

This hotel was such a dichotomy of pros and cons. On the one hand, it is located on the Grassmarket, which is a fun area of town and conveniently located near the castle (up lots of hills/stairs). I loved the location and the view - except at night - it is loud! The walls are thin and you can hear people in the next room and the hallways, the hotel […] sits immediately adjacent to a street and the traffic is constant, not to mention the flow of people that go into the wee hours of the night. I was here on a Mon, Tue, Wed stay - I can only imagine what it would be like on a weekend. Take earplugs / headphones and you'll be ok. Also, we didn't need it, but there didn't seem to be any way to control the individual room temperature. No air conditioning and a boiler system that must be controlled for the entire hotel. The window did open and they provided a fan, but keep this in mind in mid-late summer. The room size was typical for a UK hotel...not too small, but not large either. The front desk staff were friendly, inefficient, and useless. There was no concierge and they couldn't really answer any questions in depth. Also, don't expect your room to be ready on-time - we waited an extra 90 minutes to check into our room AFTER the scheduled check in time. This seemed to be ordinary to them - they just suggested we wait in the bar. :-( Overall, it was an ok stay - I would likely try a different hotel in the future since the noise was so loud...or get a top floor non-street side. I stayed at this hotel with my wife overnight on a Friday. We have stayed at several hotels in Edinburgh before but this was the first time in the Apex International. We choose it for the location - it is right on Grassmarket which is in my opinion the best area in Edinburgh for bars/food/entertainment. There is a car park under the hotel and they […] charge £8 per 24hrs - there are limited spaces but we managed to get one. The hotel staff were all excellent - very friendly and helpful. The hotel room was spacious, modern and spotlessly clean. Flat screen television and very spacious bathroom with a bath and a seperate walk in shower. we really enjoyed our stay, plenty of places around to eat and drink! Only problem was traffic noise, could do with better double glazing.
