Good price (low season) & nice, clean simple accommodation. Hotel staff were very helpful. Great location.

Fantastic view of the castle the staff like the hotel are excellent . I would recommend this hotel for a luxury break in this city .

Apex City Hotel Edinburgh was a pleasant surprise. The hotel is well located is the area of Grassmarket, which is a short (slightly hilly) walk from the main down-town area of Edinburgh. Good gotel and a competitive rate. Situated in a nice area convenient to pubs and restaurants. About 15 minutes walk from Princes Street the main shopping area. Breakfast was a bit disappointing so would recommend not paying for breakfast but eating out. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Excellent location where you are in easy walking access to all of the city. Staff at hotel are friendly and always willing to assist. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Would recommend others to stay here.

Four Norwegian guys had a great time in Edinburgh in this hotel. Perfect location for Night life and good dining. 5 minutes walk to georg street, princes st. and which is the best shopping area. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful old houses in the Grassmarket area. The hotel staff was very helpful with booking restaurants and recommending places. […] The drain in the shower was a bit clogged, which is the only reason I didn't give full score for cleaning. Breakfast was decent, but the selection wasn't very good. I can recommend Hula, which is an organic smoothie bar for breakfast. They have other stuff as well. Reasonably priced and very good food. Stayed here recently, loved this hotel. Everything was perfect in the hotel, staff were friendly, rooms were beautiful, close to most of the sights around. Would recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable place slightly away from the busier centre.

Apex City Hotel Edinburgh is in an excellent location - right next to the Royal Mile with a view of the castle. There is even a bus stop located steps outside the hotel for hopping on a tour or local bus. There was plenty of food and shopping options located nearby. There is a restaurant located in the hotel that was very good. If you are on a budget I would recommend ordering room services vs. visiting the restaurant - the room service menu had twice the options and was half the price. No clocks in the rooms...we over-slept alot... Not so bad considering the comfort of the beds.

Ideally situated in the heart of the Grassmarket and near to the Royal Mile etc. Lovely modern, clean rooms - would 100% recommend this hotel!

I know you supplied ear plugs!!!!!!!!!!! but boy was that a uncomfortable night, so for that reason I would not recommend your hotel

Modern & confortable; walking distance from all the city's major attractions. Very large & practical bathroom with seperate shower & bath. Bed is ultra confortable. Only one down side: no AC

Great location, close to all the bars, restaurants, short walk to Royal Mile. We asked for a castle view and we got it! Very clean room, great service and tasty breakfast with a full Scottish breakfast with Haggis. Very well recommended for couples.

We really enjoyed our stay, very comfortable room and very central to all attractions. Staff were efficient and friendly, and really helpful in making bookings at local attractions for us. I would recommend the hotel to any of my friends.

This hotel is a real find in terms of quality, price and location. We stayed for one night before moving to more expensive hotel the next night due to a late arrival but could easily have stayed for the entier stay.

This hotel is located close to all the major attractions in Edinburgh and is really good value for money. The only thing that could be further improved would ventilation. It would be great if it was possible to open the windows or if air con would have been available.

Overall the hotel provided comfort and style but the pillows in the bedroom are ridiculously soft and provide no support whatsover. Also, the hotel restaurant is nice but tries too hard - especially at breakfast where portions are small and food is provided in unnecessary ramekins

The only thing I found uncomfortable in this hotel was that the public areas of the hotel, i.e.corridors, sitting areas, were far too hot for myself and my husband. Able to control the tempereature in our room, so no problem there. Otherwise a very nice hotel, very near the castle and the main shopping areas of Edinburgh. Great central location, still have not found it noisy at night even at the weekends. Staff do a great job and are very attentive. Free Wi-Fi is always appreciated and free newspaper - little things make a difference.

Hotel was clean, comfortable, and convenient to all downtown locations. Overall no complaints. Staff were friendly although slightly un-knowledgeable about the surrounding area! We had a great stay and would definitely stay here again.

Location: Fantastic and right in the middle of the Old Town. A few minutes walk from the castle, with ample pubs and boutiques nearby. For a younger less touristy drinking haunt, try Under The Stairs at the end of Grassmarket. The red door gallery is also great for alternative gifts and posters. He was probably distracted moreso than rude, but that wasn't a nice introduction to the hotel. The girl that checked us out was lovely though. Room: We booked a superior double. Pros: Great sized room with comfy beds and pillows. Separate bath and shower, massive bathroom. Flat screen TV. Modern inside the room and outside. Quiet. Cons: This was for NYE so it was freezing. The central heating didn't work at all or was incredibly weak. The oil heater in the room was too weak at first so they brought another one up. Was not a good look! Room service was cash only for that night which we weren't informed about until the food came, lucky we had cash. We were on level 2 so were facing a concrete wall and didn't have much in the way of a view. Restaurant: Ok food with good service. Drinks were nice! I love Edinburgh and enjoy the Grassmarket location. I was lucky to get a standard room with a view of the castle. But the service and front desk staff were not too great. When I checked in, 2 lightbulbs were out and they couldn't fix them until the morning. And the computer internet card kept failing. It is a fantastic location and comfortable hotel […] but not special otherwise. More of a 3 star hotel than a 4 star hotel. Nobody offered to help with luggage and there are some stairs at the front to get to the lobby. I tried the breakfast one morning for an extra 10 pounds and that was well worth it - the restaurant and staff were fantastic. Leer más

First off.....this is nowhere near a 4 star hotel. You would also have to give me a good argument to give it three stars. I give it a solid 2 stars. The Apex City Hotel was our first stop on a tour around Scotland and Ireland. I chose the hotel based solely on the reviews on TripAdvisor, but I can safely say this was far and away the worst hotel we […] stayed at. I'm not a hotel snob, but I do like to have some of the basic working amenities in my hotels. Reading Finz review from September 16, I believe we may have been in the same room! I am quite honestly surprised there are so many positive reviews for this hotel. Top complaint.....no Air Conditioning, just a desk fan. Also, no working fan in the bathroom, so having a shower made the entire room a sauna. Also......the hotel provides ear plugs at your bedside because the Grassmarket gets a little rowdy at night. Not their fault, but a HUGE consideration for anyone who is a light sleeper or has trouble sleeping in strange beds. Also, housekeeping did not restock the toiletries. Two specific incidents sealed the deal for me. The incredibly unhelpful front desk staff told me that their in-house computers couldn't print PDF files (including airline boarding passes) for "security" reasons. I'd love to get that list of security reasons. There are two computers and a printer on each foor of the hotel for guest use....great for checking email and updating Facebook with the horror stories of the hotel you are staying at, but useless for printing tickets for attractions you have just purchased. She then told me it would take 30 minutes for her to print an email from me because their internet connection is so slow LOL.....That more than explained the terrible wi-fi service at the hotel!!! The only solution was to go next door to the internet cafe and print our materials and pay for the privilege. What sunk the entire ship was when we were told the locks on the doors shouldn't be used. We wanted something close to Paddington Station but a place with some space to move around. We got that and more. The room was large and so was the bath. The staff were very pleasant. The lounge served a nice menu. Highly recommend.

I chose the hotel mainly based on its proximity the The Castle and it turned out to be a good thing. We were in the heart of Old Town, near pretty much everything and only minutes away from New Town. We stayed for 5 nights in a city twin room. The beds initially needed to be pulled apart; even so, there wasn’t a lot of room between them. We each had […] 2 pillows, one firm and one softer. There was no top sheet but a duvet cover. Each bed had a night table with a lamp; one also had a telephone while the other had an alarm clock. The beds were quite comfortable and the room was a fair size. There was an armchair by the window with a small table, a lamp by the TV and a computer table. The TV system included a DVD players. I was taken aback to find that there was no drawers at all. Instead there were 3 tall cupboards with shelves and hangers. It worked okay but I would have preferred drawers for some items. Amenities included an iron and board, a kettle and tea kit (coffee, a selections of teas and hot chocolate and packages of cookies), a fan and 2 phones. There were cubbies in the table, one of which held a power bar and the other a nice full-sized hair dryer. We didn’t make use of the fan; the room was consistently at a comfortable temperature. It was a little odd to be on the 3rd story (called the second floor in the UK) and be right on street level; I had to be careful to remember to draw the curtains shut when changing. There was a bath and a shower in the bathroom. The shower was open (no curtain or door) and had a height-adjustable head. The bath had an accessories rack that slid across the top which held an adorable green rubber ducky. There was one ledge for storage behind the toilet, no counter. We each had a washcloth, hand/hair towel and a nicely oversized bath towel. Toiletries consisted of shampoo, conditioner, bath/shower gel, bar soap and a shoe shiner. There were also tissues. For ease of sight seeing and restaurants & pubs, the location of this hotel couldn't be better. If your a light sleeper and travel during the summer months, you might need your earplugs as the pubs across the street have a great deal of outdoor activity into the night. Great place, great customer service, within walking distance of almost everything, the sightseeing tour buses pick up outside the hotel.

We loved this hotel, the staff were v friendly and courteous. The rooms were very comfortable with great views on the castle, walk in shower and bath including complementary rubber duck, was a lovely touch. Hotel is in a great location, we didnt get any buses taxis etc. The only downfall was that the area is rather lively on a saturday night and it was difficult to sleep even though we returned late ourselves. the others nights sun, mon and tues were fine though. Stayed here for five nights for a business trip. Staff was courteous and professional, room service reasonably priced, and rooms comfy and clean. Centrally located. Lots of street noise until very late at night due to the proximity to the city center. Couldn't block out the bright light from outside. No cooling, so rooms can get quite warm -- almost […] too hot to sleep. In-room wifi worked on first night, but the router refused to assign DHCP addresses on subsequent days. I called their wifi support staff multiple times, but they were utterly useless -- much more interested in watching the World Cup (I could hear the vuvuzelas in the background) than helping. Called back every day for four days, and they eventually agreed to send an engineer out to reboot the modem next week. Bloody good that will do me. Had to camp out in hot common areas on floors with working wifi modems to check email. Avoid this place if you actually need to get work done on a business trip. Go somewhere with a competent IT staff. This place certainly lacks that. Leer más

The hotel was easy to find from the station which was a blessing after 5 hours on a train. At check in we were informed that we were being upgraded FOC. Having finally found the room, I was initially disappointed to see that our upgraded room had a view of a grassy bank and the back of another building making the room rather dark. However it was a blessing […] as the area outside the hotel is full of bars and is popular with stag and hen parties so a room at the back of the hotel was quite. We didn't have breakfast on the first morning as we were off on a tour so left too early but we did have breakfast on the second day. There was a good selection for the continental breakfast but the cooked breakfast was a little greasy. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Check out was easy (having paid for it all before we arrived) and they were happy to look after our bags whilst we went round the city before our return train in the afternoon. Hotel pricey but very central. Double bed quite small - most similarly priced hotels have king size or super king size beds. Unusually hot in Edinburgh and the duvet seemed winter weight - hence difficult to sleep. Decor, service and breakfast good.

Everything was fine except for the temperature of the room and of the hallways: they were much too hot even though the outside temperature was 20 or less.The windows in the rooms do not open sufficiently, and at night with the curtains closed it was stiffling. Located in a terrific location across the street from a row of pubs and cafes at the base of Edinburgh Castle. Easy walking distance to the Royal Mile. Room was attractive, quiet and clean. Large, separate shower in well-apppointed bathroom.
