"decent for the price"
The pictures displayed at Hotels.com is a little deceiving because the hotel is grungy and the clientele is vastly different. Also, complimentary transportation service isn't available both way - it is from the hotel to the airport only. Rooms don't have refrigerators, the beds are uncomfortable, and there are all sorts of weird noises. However, we […] felt secure, the sheets were clean and everything worked fine. Nearby bus service (The Deuce) and Fremont Street shops are within walking distance and if you're looking for a place to crash, clean up, and head out... El Cortez offers motel rates but is a step up from a motel. Leer más
"near the strip"
Fremont District market within walking distance, lots of restaurants to choose from. Also close to bus stops if you don't rent a car. Driving to The Strip is better, free parking in most garages. Cheap rate, and spacious room, but hard to find a workable hair drier.
"El cortez"
Very bad experience. Will never ever stay there again. Na elevators . Had to carry luggage for 2 floors. AC/Heat not working. Front desk very rude. Said all the low Price rooms r like that
Nice hotel, found noise into room from hallway loud.
"Cabana Suites"
We stayed in the Cabana Suites. They were really nice rooms. A king bed, a flat screen tv, and a large walk in shower. The room itself was really nice. The only downside is that the Cabana Suites are across the street from the El Cortez and we had to lug our things from the front desk in one building to our room across the street. And as surprising […] as this may sound, Las Vegas does get chilly in the winter evenings so the walk wasn't entirely appreciated. The neighborhood itself also isn't the best. I think this is the first thing my boyfriend noticed. So he was exactly comfortable walking outside. Unlike the El Cortez, where you can just walk right on to Fremont Street, you have to walk a block in this neighborhood before getting to it. Once you are in your room, you're fine. There were up to three security guards at the front entrance to the Suites and they aren't very friendly to those who aren't staying there. They were a bit rude to a guest who was trying to meet me in the lobby. Other than that, it was a great room, and I suggest staying at the Cabana Suites located across from the El Cortez. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised once you get inside. Leer más

"The El Cortez Fremont District, Las Vegas, NV"
I stayed in the towers section of the hotel and was impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room, and how comfortable the beds were. The staff was also excellent. I would definitely stay here again.

"El Cortez He may be the one who built it."
Cheap and old.
"time travel"
What can I say, I love this place. Old school Las Vegas COOL. When you want to transport back in time this place will take you there.
The staff from Front Desk welcoming and quick. I had a maintenance problem, it was delt within an hour, boy that surprised me. This was the first time to stay at El Cortez and it met my every expectation including coffee in the room. I did not know that they provide a return to the airport on everyday save Saturday. A really nice gesture.

forgot room service oneday!
"Will never stay at El Cortez in Las Vegas again!"
I was told straight to my face that I paid the high rate per night cause it was New Years Eve. "The Pavillion" section is old, weathered and the rooms are so nasty they make you want to sleep in your car. HOWEVER, by far the best Casino & Restaurant (Cafe Cortez) in town. I will defenatley return to play in the most awesome casino in Vegas & eat at […] the "great" Cafe Cortez ..... I will just have to sleep in my car! Leer más
"Nice room, weird neighborhood"
There are two types of places in Las Vegas: the places where the rich people go, and the places where the rich people used to go. The Hotel Cortez is a place in the latter. I you want to see the shell of yesteryear Las Vegas, the Hotel Cortez is for you. The room was nice enough. You can go down to the main lobby at 6:30 AM and see old matrons hard […] at work on the slot machines. Or you can take a walk over to the "Fremont Street Experience" and go to the casinos that are well past their heyday and imbue your clothes with the smell of cigarettes from the person puffing away on the stool next to you at the $5 black jack table. Granted, the Cabana room to which I was upgraded was clean, although it had a strange antiseptic smell, which as annoying until I go used to it. The staff was pleasant, about as pleasant as one can expect when working in a place that hasn't seen a good time since "Bugsy Seigel owned the joint." In terms of transportation convenience, it was impossible to get a cab to the Convention during CES, because, as the Valet said "they don't come up this far anymore." Thus, I took public transportation, which is surprisingly good for a town where you'd think the only vehicle to share is a limousine. There is a very, very nice coffee house across the street from The Cortez. It is called, The Beat Coffeehouse. The food is better than casino fare, the clientele is artistic and Internet access is free. It made the stay a whole lot more pleasant. I felt as if I was in a city that had a modicum of diversity instead of an urban setting dedicated the the roll of the dice. Would I stay there again, dunno. Depends on my travel budget. Leer más

"Another great stay at El Cortez!"
I have stayed at the El Cortez 7 times in the last ten years, always in a King tower room. To economize, I stayed in a Pavilion Room. It was 20% less costly than the tower and my car was right outside the room. Granted, the room was quite a bit smaller, along with the bathroom. But, it's VEGAS! How much are you in the room? Overall, it was an even better […] bargain than the tower. Leer más
"Too noisy"
The hotel is located close to the night club and street activities. For my 5 nights stay, 3 nights the loud night club dance music last to 2-3AM. hard to get much sleep if you are not used to such noise like me.
"Not as bad as you would think"
This is the second time I stayed at El Cortez. It's a little out of the way, but you have to walk everywhere in Vegas. You don't have to walk far once you get to the hotel, unlike strip hotels. It's quite. If you're familiar with downtown, then it's a good place to stay. If you're not familiar or want more of a Vegas feel, stay somewhere else.
"El Cortez and the Fremont experience"
Not a bad and inexpensive place to stay. I stayed there over a weekend with a few friends. We were celebrating the 21st birthday of one of my son's friend. We had a blast a the Fremont experience was only one block away. Me and my son stayed in the rooms that were located in the tower section of the hotel and they were very nice. I was actually pleasantly […] surprised. However, one of my buddies stayed in a room that was not in the tower section (#2218) and it sucked! It reminded me of living in a run-down modular manufactured home. His room had a funny smell (like smoke & sweat) and it was very small compared to the room I had. My overall experience with this hotel was very good and I would stay there again if I was just going to hang out on Fremont St. Leer más

"old but decent for the price"
Check in was delayed for nearly two hours until a room could be cleaned. We were in the old ("Vintage") section of the hotel but our room was very spacious and comfortable. No elevator availablity to our room was a nuisance. Our room was directly above the casino and some noise and even tobacco smoke made their ways into our non-smoking room. The downtown […] area has its seedy spots but the "Fremont Experience" was close by with lots of casinos and eating spots. All in all not a bad experience for such an old venue. Leer más
"The hotel el cortez"
The hotel was a dump. The bed matters you could fell the springs poking through.. House keeping does not give you clean towels when they clean your room they take dirty towels and leaves nothing. Tje rooms was nasty and I will never stay there. And I wouldnt recommend it to any one I know
"Pack of Lies"
First I was told this Hotel was only 1 Mile from the Mandalay Bay where I had to attend a daily Convention. It was 10 miles and a $35.00 cab ride. Lousy neighborhood. Would not recommend stepping outdoors at night. Could not even step into a place to eat without choking on cigarette smoke. I bet the food would taste like cigarettes. Also they tried […] to hit me with a $122.00 restaurant charge when I never even stepped into their steak house. I would not stay here again if the rooms were FREE. Leer más

Hotel housekeeping is not taking pride in job here's a fun game play how many socks can you find in your room from previous guests even after they were made aware of the exact location in the room the only positive about this. Good hotel if you want to stay near Freemont experience street Cheap price for quality Smell a lot of cigars & cigarettes in the lobby, casino, not in the room. Some room are oldest big room, two sofa, very clean for the price we got, very good deal
"El Cortez"
VERY small room. No table for laptop. Downtown is good location and a short drive on Vegas Blvd and you are on the strip. Adequate room as we did not spend much time in the room anyway except to sleep.

"off strip bargain- no extra charges"
the location is a little inconvenient but the free breakfast, business center with free internet and copying , free local calls and free airport shuttle and strip shuttle (one way only to strip) combined with the low price make it a great hotel for the budget minded. the two cab rides back from the strip didnt bother us at all
very happy with the stay
"good place for price"
the hotel staff are nice and helpful but stay far away cafe they said food was great and it wasnt bad but if u wanna eat in a stinky cafe with rude staff. i dont understand why the cafe is open 24 hours but roomservice is only 7 tot 7 and i also dont understabd why the cant have to go order and when i ask the rudy lady said go eat subways u can carryout […] there overall the place is not that great stay on the strip and u will save one bus tix witch also suck toride in vegas\ Leer más
