The hallways have carpet that appears to be 30 years old and is dirty and stained. And the hallways are poorly lit.

We loved this place!! The staff was superior! We traveled with our dog and were pleasantly surprised to find our hotel was right next to a dog park both leashed and off leash! The marina was beautiful, breakfast buffet was wonderful, access to the freeway was easy! We would definitely stay here when we are in the area!

When a car alarm outside wouldn't stop the staff gave us another room to sleep in. We didn't even have to move our stuff which was great since it was 1 am. Class act!

My only complaint is that there is a charge for internet in the hotel room. It's free in the lobby, but that was far from where I was staying and inconvenient since I was working in my room.

I lived in the Bay Area for many years and the Double Tree was once a Marriott hotel. In the 1970's, it was a favorite disco hangout, which I enjoyed. For an older hotel, it has been well maintained and in a great location. The king room the I had was clean and comfortable. The staff was great and the business center was handy.

The hotel is convenient, in a great location, and has great amenities. We've stayed there before and have always been pleased. This stay was slightly disappointing though - it was noisy (luck of the draw - noisy neighbors) and there was no coffee in the room, just tea.

Good location and good value but avoid their Belgian Waffles.

This hotel has been beautifully updated and restored. The room was completely clean and comfortable, with pleasant decor.The service was beyond excellent - everyone seemed to be so friendly and trying hard to please. It is in a magnificent location on the marina, has a vast green space next to it for walking, pets, views, etc. It is an easy drive into Berkeley for shopping, theatre, restaurants, etc. The only improvements to our stay would be better cell phone reception in the room and lobby of the hotel. And, upon check-in, being informed of the hotel shuttle that takes guests into Berkeley and to the BART station. We didn't find out about it until we checked out. We will definitely return, with dogs, to this hotel. Loved it.

The place was hopping and with only one elevator in each section of the hotel, it was an effort to go up and down. The place itself was nice and the beds very comfortable, but it was a bit of a madhouse.

The staff was friendly and prompt in their service. The location is great. Hotel faces the marina, there is a great park next to the hotel, and you are within easy driving distance of Berkeley, Oakland, and surrounding cities. My wife, something of a gourmet, found the dinner of good quality.

Booked a king bed with a view. When we checked in, they gave us a room with 2 doubles. So, back to registration, and we ended up with a king bed on the same side of the building as the view, but tucked back on the first floor. No view to speak of, but we were in a rush and they gave us the "full hotel" story both times. The room and bed were fine, but the view was not what we were led to believe. Only a few rooms have the nice view accross the bay; most rooms "with a view" instead can see a few boats in the marina but no open water and definitely not San Francisco

Very minimal staff working during our stay, service pretty spotty. But hotel was clean, view of marina was great, a nice place to stay if you don't require much service, and don't care that it's not that close to downtown Berkeley (not walking distance at all, you need to drive or take their shuttle when available). The starbucks outlet in the lobby was not open ever. The restaurant was closed a few nights, though you could have same food served in the bar. Quality of restaurant food was great.

The hotel only sells some obscure local newspaper. Good lord--guests from out of town would like to read the LA Times or the Ny Times. Even the San Francisco Chronicle was not available--at a hotel in Oakland???! The assistant seemed annoyed that I was disappointed not to able to purchase a major newspaper. I had to drive in to town (10 minutes away) to obtain one.

When visiting Berkeley, remember that parking is a huge issue; many hotels just *don't* have any. Others charge an arm and a leg ($25-$50/day) which significantly adds to your lodging expense. The Marina Doubletree has tons of free parking -- unheard of in that area. It's a huge deal. Given the ease and proximity (Fourth Street is really close), this hotel is the best value I found when coming to Berkeley in a car. The only downside is that the cell phone service is a little spotty in this hotel; AT&T had zero or one bars on my iPhone. If management really wanted to create value for their guests, they'd put in free Wifi. Then my hands would be tied; I would not be able to stay anywhere else in Berkeley.

I am amazed that this hotel was a Doubletree. This is, undoubtedly, the worst Doubletree I have ever stayed in - BY FAR. Hotel in general is old and tired. The room itself was a bit of a mess. Believe it or not, the floor of the room was not flat!! Yes, a noticeable slant!!

Needs improvement. No ameities (hairdryers, etc.). Lobby store should be open longer hours. (10 am - 2 pm is not adequate)

The room was very small, no cofee pot in the room, I felt the price was high with small room and no breakfast.

This is a very nice hotel located on the marina with many attractive boats. The surrounding property was nicely landscaped and cared for. The room was very clean and staff were helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good and fairly priced. The dinner menu was good; however, I felt that it was a bit expensive.

The hotel is located a little away but still quite accessible.The room is nicely furnished and the facilities (toilet, bed sheets etc) are all good. We stayed for two nights and are satisfied.

Excellent front desk service! The location at the marina is a little remote from Berkeley, but it is a very nice area. The landscaping is beautiful. We were in bldg 4, and it was very nice. Easy access to parking. Did not use the exercise room, but stopped by to see it - it was very nice, including a small lap pool. The only negative comment I have concerns the shuttle service. They only leave the hotel on the hour, which is OK. You call when you need to be picked up, and they say to allow up to 25 minutes (they tell you this after you are on the shuttle and read the 'call back' slip). On a Monday we needed to be picked up at 7PM and were told we would have to wait approx 45 minutes because the shuttle was behind. had i know this i might have made other arrangements. i feel they should tell you ahead of time about both the 25 minute wait and the fact that they get behind schedule up to 45 minutes.

very interesting surroundings.. marina, landscaping, adjacent park and wildlife area. especially liked the racoon who greeted us at the hotel's front door upon our arrival!

The location is very convenient to Berkeley and extremely picturesque in its placement in the Berkeley Marina. Certainly it could be considered a 3-star for cleanliness and comfort, but falls oddly flat in its attention to details - definitely not a 4. Our first room was a King Junior Suite, which really was just a slightly wider standard king room - no extra table, closet or dresser space. These rooms are definitely not worth extra money unless you need work-out space / extra floor space for yoga. Our second room was a full suite. But that too had some odd issues. First and foremost was a complete lack of a bathroom door! No kidding. And no place where one might have previously been. The room was top notch in space and layout otherwise, but lacked any bar, extra sink, second remote (two tv's), corkscrew or any glasses (although it did have an ice bucket.) Also, one of the phones in the room was not hooked up!? Add to this the lack of wi-fi beyond the main building and really so-so room service, and you get an idea of our stay. The staff was extremely friendly, certainly no fault there. But if you are not staying here for a conference or event, there are far better 3 & 4 star values nearby to be had.

The room we stayed was ok. the a/c unit was not functioning well. Room service was good but there was no place to set the food. felt we were crunched for space and were bumping into each other. we were four of us with two adults and two kids.

We stay at this hotep while visiting family in Berkeley. Althought the hotel is removed from the main shops and restaurants, they run a shuttle to the North Berkeley BART station and to other places in the city. We find it affrodable and comfortable.

The idea of the Berkeley Doubletree is good but it is not up to usual Doubletree standards. It is hard to find even with directions from Mapquest etc. The service in the Dining Room was not up to par.The help was friendly as an excuse not to do what is expected in the way of service. Part of the drinks arrived and the rest twenty minutes later as an example. There was no notification before arriving that the basic services such a Room Service would be curtailed for the holiday weekend. The Gift Shop has been turned into a coffee shop no one frequents.Every good hotel needs a Gift Shop where you can buy the newspapaer etc. The room staff was good and cheery. One good thing is that there is a family swimming pool for children and another pool near the Fitness Center for adults. The lighting in my room was so poor that I had to ask maintenance for other light bulbs which they did not have and gave me another lamp. It was difficult to read which was annoying.How can you be a meeting center and not have people able to read?Little information on Berkeley was available, the emphasis was on San Fran. Too bad as Berkeley has great food. The hotel relies on it's location [once you get there] and could use an overhaul in the area of hospitality services. My dog was welcome and loved his Woof Woof Pillow.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and the room was comfortable and near great Berkeley Marina restaurants.

This hotel has a beautful setting. We loved the view of the marina and its proximity to Berkeley.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and paid the fee at the time of booking instead at the time of arrival. It has worked out well both times. An unusual thing happened the morning of our last day. Even though check out time was 12 noon, our room keys were cut off before 9 am. I was lucky in that other staff were around to let me in the door, and my companion was in the room, or I would have had to make a separate trip to the front desk. I called to let them know, and a person arrived with an updated key within 5 minutes. I did not get an answer as to why this had happened.

the rooms were ideal, i stayed twice during my two weeks in California, in different parts of the hotel. The beds were very comfy and apart from not having a fridge the rooms were fine. There are two pools, so always able to swim but towels at the pool were few and far between. The only complaint was the fact the starbucks coffee bar closes early so if you arrive in the early evening you cant get a coffee/tea apart from in your room or at the bar. When i asked for some extra milk for my room machine I was almost charged $3 for a small carton which did not impress me, but minor detail. Also at Double tree Inns you get a chocolate cookie on arrival, a really nice touch. If you want a quiet hotel, with lovely views, this is the one to choose. Dont pay extra for a room with a view if you wish to save, as all rooms are moments away from the marina and lounge etc.

Great location. Next to walking trails, the track, the university, not to mention just ashort drive to the city. I will be stying there again.

Excellent location for those who like to walk. The marina is right ouside-lots of activity to watch.There is a bird reserve right adjacent to the hotel too with extensive walking paths. There are plenty of public restrooms along the paths. Bring your camers with you on your walk. We stayed midway in building 3 and it was very quiet at night. Lots of easy & free parking.

A very picturesque location from the upper rooms. Good and courtious room service.The staff are very helpful.

Everything about our stay here was very fine. Dinner at the Bay Grille was a pleasure; very nice food and wonderful view. Room could not have been better and the grounds were a pleasure for walking.

Very good connection to expressway but far enough distance to cancel the traffic noise.Outstanding view of bay and Golden Gate Bridge when the fog is not present.A hidden Gem for the price.I hated to leave.

The location of this hotel is great, though it will always be packed with business travelers and weddings, and as a result, they do not care about the individual. We booked a king size bed, which we paid more for, and were given two full beds with no possible way for an upgrade or money back. This was not a great experience, and while they offered me free internet as a bonus, that was not even close to compensating for being uncomfortable trying to sleep next to my girlfriend. They were rude about it, and I would not recommend it.

The hotel was nice, seemed a bit old, but felt clean. I was disappointed there wasn't a refrigerator in the room. I just assumed there would be. Also, only one sink the bathroom. Once again, I assumed there would be two. These may be nit-picking because I would stay there again, just bring my own ice-chest.

A great place to stay with a wonderful view of the Marina. On a clear day, you can see the Bay bridge and the lights of San Francisco.
