Oxford Thames Four Pillars

Lovely grounds, warm reception, friendly, helpful staff, huge room, spotlessly clean. Can't wait to come back!

Everything is within expectation, a beautiful quiet place for a short relaxing holidays, spacious room with good view, hot English breakfast and continental breakfast provided, a nice swimming pool with jacuzzi, steam and sauna, gym facility etc. However, I was disappointed when checking in the hotel. Arrived at 12:30pm, room is not ready. Since the […] official check-in time is 3pm (fair enough), we have no complaint. The receptionist suggested to come back at 2pm, and offered to store our luggage at the hotel (a plus). So, we went for a stroll then headed to town for a couple of hours. Came back at 3pm, the receptionist said she'll get someone to check if our room is ready. We waited for 15 mins, then asked again (same receptionist). She gave us the key. We went to our room, the cleaner was still doing our room. This is where it is not acceptable and we were really unhappy about this. It is very important for a smooth check-in, as it affects customers' first impression to the hotel operation and service quality. Furthermore, there are four hours gap between official check out (11am) and check in (3pm), which is enough to get a room done especially when we had "reported" our arrival more than 2 hours earlier. Back to reception, another staff quickly got a different room for us. (a plus for sorting out problem promptly). In overall, we would still recommend this hotel to others. I hope they will improve the check-in procedure and make sure the room is ready at least before the official check-in time. Leer más

The hotel has very spacious rooms and is very comfortable. it has a gym, spa and a very good restaurant. The bar is also very good. The only disadvantage of the hotel was its distance from the city centre.

We had a very enjoyable and relaxed stay. I had cycled 60 miles along the Thames Path, and wanted a pint of beer, then a swim, a hot tub and a sauna - all catered for. Then, we had a relaxed and unhurried meal, finishing with coffee taken on the lawn (it being a lovely summer evening).

This hotel was easy to find, signposted from the M40. Location was great and grounds excellent. Our room was of a very high quality with all the 'mod cons' you would expect. This hotel is in a beautiful location on the Thames, and is extremely comfortable. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast - the buffet cooked breakfast was not kept fresh - the bacon was not very crispy and the fried eggs had been cooked through from the light/heater they were placed underneath on the buffet table. also the buffet was closed […] at exactily 9:30, so one felt slightly rushed if arriving at the restaurant towards the end of breakfast service. Very nice location riverside, nice food and good service. A bit pricy, but worth it!

This is a little out of town but a beautiful location on the banks of the Thames. Service was exceptional and the meals five star. One thing to keep in mind there is no lifts so lugging bags up a flight of stairs may not be everyone's cup of tea but there is plenty of help. Totally recommend this venue.

What a beautiful hotel and location right on the River Thames. It far exceeded our expectations. Could not fault the Hotel and the staff who were all extremely helpful from reception staff to restaurant staff, breakfast choice very good. The only drawback was the lack of drawer space in the room and the condition of the bathroom which was rather tired. […] The swimming pool a bonus to have a relaxing swim after sightseeing all day. Bus service to Oxford excellent but not good for evenings out as the last bus into Oxford is 6 p.m. and no return from then onwards. Taxis very good but the one booked by the hotel was overpriced. The pub in the village (5 minute walk) is right on the Thames and has lovely garden to sit in. We ate there for a snack lunch on our arrival on Friday which was quite reasonable and again on Sunday evening where we had 4 main courses and a bottle of house white wine the bill coming to less than £50 the food very good. Be aware though that we arrived after a hot day at 8 p.m. on Sunday evening to be told the kitchen was about to close so a quick decision on choice but nonetheless very good. Lots to see in Oxford take the tour bus with commentary 1 hour round trip which you can hop on and off at various places of interest. Undercover market a must see. Balliol University worth looking round small entrance fee lovely grounds. Christ Church University also worth a visit. Go up the Carfax Tower small charge where you can see all the spires of Oxford. All in all a lovely city to visit. Worth going to Blenheim Palace (8 miles away). Beautiful Palace and the grounds outstanding. If you book tickets through the hotel they are cheaper and you will still qualify for the special offer of getting an annual pass which is issued on the day (fill in form and have photo taken by them) worth it to go back again for nothing and also visit when they have various special events. An excellent 3 night stay... the staff were very attentive to all our needs, the facilities were excellent as was the location. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night, the quality of the food was excellent, however those expecting large portions will be sadly disappointed. Unfortunately, the hotel is attempting the 'nouveau cuisine' approach […] to dining, good food in small portions. The price of the food, whilst not excessive, is disproportionate to the amount of food you receive. Breakfast on the other hand is quite a treat! At the weekends, if you plump for the full english option as I did, you are limited only by the size of the plate when loading on the bacon, eggs, hash browns etc!! If going for the fried breakfast option weekdays however, portion size is decided by the chef as it is all cooked to order rather than from the buffet bar at the weekends. The only small (very small) gripe that I have with the room is that the shower was not particularly great ... let me explain, I am 6' 3" and the shower head only extends up the wall about 5' , which is a real pain if you enjoy a shower like I do!! Away from the hotel, there is easy access to the park and ride services into Oxford, and there are some beautiful villages and attractions to visit within an easy drive of the hotel. Overall an excellent stay in a clean, friendly, well equipped and sympathetically refurbished hotel, with friendly, helpful staff who made our stay a pleasant experience. Jeg hadde tre fantastiske dager på Oxford Thames Four Pillars i påsken. Stedet ligger flott til like ved Themsen. Det er fine turmuligheter i området og følger du Thamesen opp 4-5 km så kommer du til Oxford. Det er også buss mulighet rett utenfor hotellet slik at du kan komme deg effektivt opp til Universitetsbyen. Rommet vi bodde på var stort med […] utsikt til en flott hage. Det ble gjort rent hver dag mens vi spiste frokost. Hyggelig personale og muligheter for å svømme og ta et boblebad. Jeg likte meg godt og vil anbefale stedet til alle som ønsker å komme seg litt bort fra storbyen for litt fred og ro. Leer más

Stayed for four nights, attending a training on premises. Beautiful setting with gardens along the Thames, very nice walk into Oxford. The hotel is quiet and peaceful. The staff seems very young, they are very friendly, but not well trained (or supervised). Examples: In an almost empty breakfast room my tea never arrived after 15 minutes (even after […] several requests). One afternoon my room was not made up, they quickly showed up to fix it, though. Het hotel heeft een tuin die tot aan de oevers van de Thames loopt. De afstand naar Oxford is niet te lopen, maar je kunt bij het zusterhotel in de stad parkeren. Vanaf daar is het 10 minuten lopen. Heerlijk rustig hotel, prima staf, uitstekend ontbijt, betaalbare en heerlijke barmenu's. Het restaurant is iets duurder.
